Guest guest
Cyndi, Zelnorm isn't something I've had any experience with, but Miralax sure is. All I can say about it is that it was a life saver for me when constipation and resulting hemmorroids were makng life miserable for me. Each month I'd report to my previous GI doctor with these complaints, and each month he'd give me the standard response about increasing my fiber intake and maybe trying Metamucil or something like that. I had done both, eating so many things with fiber that I think it actually made matters worse, plus adding prunes to my breakfast every morning and trying Metamucil, MOM, FiberOne, Senecot, Colace and any new product that came on the market. There was no improvement whatsoever. Finally, after I'd had a horrible experience with an impaction, I mentioned my problem on the board and Karyn suggested that I ask my doctor about Miralax, explaining that she'd had great success with it. So I immediately asked my GI if he would prescribe some for me, and he offhandedly said, " Sure, a lot of my patients use that " , and wrote a script for it. It made me so ANGRY....after all those months of my being so uncomfortable and in such misery, complaining to him and asking for his help, and then he suddenly agrees to write a script for it! Why couldn't he have done that months ago? If I didn't know better I'd think that he wasn't even listening to me, but I have my records, and it's right in there listed as one of my complaints for four months in a row. After my DKA I fired this doctor, but I honestly don't understand some of the peculiar things he did. After about three days of using the Miralax, I started having regular easy motility again. I've found that it works as well with diarrhea as it does with constipation, and I still continue to use it about once or twice a week. Because of the heavy amounts of narcotics that I've had to take in the past, I found that it was necessary to use it more frequently then. Now that my narcotic usage is greatly reduced from what it used to be, I don't need it as often. It can be purchased in a generic form if you're trying to save some money. The generic version is called Glycolax. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth Bluffton, SC South Carolina State Rep.
