Guest guest
My son got his first DOC Band at 4 mo 3 weeks and outgrew it in 9 weeks. We had AMAZING (20 mm of asymmetry to 10 mm after 6 weeks to 7 mm after 9 weeks) improvement but we decided to move forward with a second helmet since he still had noticable (at least to me) asymmetry. CT told us from the get go that babies his age typically outgrow helmets in 2-3 months and that he would probably need 2 since he was considered severe. They told us the second helmet will last 3-4 months. So far they have been right on with their estimates. I have also wondered if we banded him later if we would only have needed 1 helmet but you can drive yourself crazy with the what-ifs. At the end of the day I am glad that we banded him when we did and are closing in on our graduation date. I have also heard that some babies that were banded very young and graduated before they were sitting well and still spending a lot of time on their backs experienced regression after they graduated. I can't really speak to this but it is probably worth asking about. Hope this helps! From: wnknapik <wnknapik@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wed, May 12, 2010 9:52:53 AMSubject: 2 helmets with DOC band? I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar situation as me.My son recieved a band at 3 months and at that time we were told treatment would likely be 10 - 12 weeks and that the odds of a 2nd helmet were 15% or so.I just went for his 5 week check up and the technician told me that he looks like he'll need a 2nd band in 3 weeks.?!!I never really expected a 2nd band and certainly never thought he could outgrow the 1st in 8 weeks. I just wonder if he was started too soon.Any thoughts or similar scenarios?
