Guest guest
Hi Sandy: I have to be brief here because I'm still not feeling well..but don't know if it was ever me posting about the NON rising A & L levels during " attacks. " I've asked about the subject before...so it very could have been me. Mine have only risen ONCE waaay back in the end of January before the gall bladder surgery which docs and me were convinced was my problem....NOT!! (as evidenced that I'm just back from Dr. Lehman at Indy recovering from sphincterotomy and temp. stent placement.) Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it could have been a post from me regarding the A & L levels....mine never rose again after that first time and even then, they only rose modestly (I think something like 150 can't remember whether that was lipase or amylase - sorry!!) Alot of people have had this problem with NO rise in A & L levels...usually those where the panc has been so damaged by virtually " eating itself " with the A & L enzymes after many attacks in which case it is now more of a chronic panc problem instead of a " recurring acute problem " , which as I'm sure you know already the A & L are there to digest FOOD - NOT the panc itself!! With some people (I suspect like me) with sphincter of oddi dysfunction....it seems that the A & L levels don't always rise either probably because the problem is with the sphincter of oddi and not WITHIN the panc itself. I could be wrong....but these are my suspicions anyway. Hope that helps to clarify it a bit!! Also, hope you're feeling well today!! Write me anytime....I'm on the computer when I feel well enough these days....I'm a bit better than I was yesterday so I'm hoping that it will continue to at LEAST pre-ERCP EVERYDAY pain.....but this has been more on the absolutely excruciating side of pain...almost enough to go to ER. love,
