Guest guest
Our son was fitted for his DOC Band at 5 1/2 months. He got lots of correction in it - but outgrew it in 7 weeks. We didn't anticipate having to do two bands, though he was measured with severe plagio (17mm CVA) when we started. He got to 9-10mm CVA with the first band and things looked so much better. CT recommended a second band at that point, but we opted not to do it. After 6 weeks of worrying about it, we decided we were stopping too soon and proceeded with Band #2. He graduated from the second band at 11 months with 5mm CVA. His skull-base measurement (ear misalignment) went from 8mm to 0mm and mid-face asymmetry from 10mm to 0mm in 2 bands. We were initially bummed about having to do two but we're glad we did it. No regrets. Guest guest
I think in general something around 15% of babies in docbands need a 2nd band. But I haven't heard of them telling individuals their baby has a 15% - usually they can be more precise depending on severity of the head. I don't think you started too early, since I'm assuming you'll get good correction with all that growth. If you're outgrowing the band without good correction - then it may be a problem. Eight weeks is a short time, but not unheard of with docbands, especially for young babies. Usually you have the option of deciding about a 2nd band before graduation (they'll start the new band before the first is finished) or after, in which case you can see how the results of the first band were, and if you're satisfied. Some people do decide to do only 1 band, but it really depends on your baby's head, and possibly your financial situation, since bands are very expensive. -christine sydney, 4yr, starband grad > > I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar situation as me. > My son recieved a band at 3 months and at that time we were told treatment would likely be 10 - 12 weeks and that the odds of a 2nd helmet were 15% or so. > I just went for his 5 week check up and the technician told me that he looks like he'll need a 2nd band in 3 weeks.?!! > I never really expected a 2nd band and certainly never thought he could outgrow the 1st in 8 weeks. Are you relying on a non-factual definition of the word, " need " ? The website clearly states, and I have posted it several times now, that nearly 20% -- " Less than 20% " -- of DOC band babies get a second band. I'm calling for moderation (and if the poster is a moderator, I mean, the owner) on this repeated dissemination of false information. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 2, STARband '

Guest guest
Same happened with us. My daughter got a band at 4 months but that one didn't fit correctly so she got another band at 5 months old. Outgrew it in 8 weeks and we opted not to get another. Although she still had room for improvement, she had great results in 8 weeks and we thought spending another $4,000 out of pocket wouldn't be worth it. We went less by numbers and more by looks. CT didn't pressure us on a 2nd band bc they knew it wasn't really an option for us financially and just praised all of her success with her main band. Oh and my daughter has been out of her band for months and we are very happy with our decision! Hope this helps. www.leopardorpolkadots.blogspot.com > > I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar situation as me.
