Guest guest
Hi Sammy, We are from Minnesota, too. I go to Fairview for our ped appointments and we also banded here at Fairview orthotics. The orthotist herself is a lovely person, but I wouldn't recommend going to Fairview based on the outcome we had. Before switching to Doc Band ( Cranial Technologies) in Chicago, I did take my child to see Dr. Wood and checked out the cap that he invented. To tell you the truth, the first thing that I didn't like about the cap is that it is not round on the back, but sort of protrudes out on one side quite a bit( of course, they will tell you that there is nothing wrong with that). Also, you can search old messages in this group, type in Dr. Wood or cranial cap. I did and found some negative experiences that parents had with the cap. After trying a Fairview Band, I decided to travel to Chicago to Cranial Technologies because of their reputation. I didn't want to take anymore chances with local providers. At that point my son was 10 months old and I knew I couldn't ' afford' another mistake. Hope this helps a little. Tatiana > > Hi All, > > Our DD is 4 months old and has torticollis and plagio. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply, Tatina! We thought about Doc band too. If it's available in Minnesota we would definetly go with it. I am trying to get evaluation appt with Dr Wood and see how the asymmettry levels are. With both of our working schedules it may not be possible to fly Chicago every week. How is it going with you? Did you see the results rightaway? Sammy > > > > Hi All, > > > > Our DD is 4 months old and has torticollis and plagio. Guest guest
Sammy, There is also a Starband provider in St. Louis Park at Park Nicollet. The orthotist's name is Hines. I don't know how good he is, but you might want to go there for an evaluation. I think it is free. He will do a scan of your baby's head for measurements and severity assessment. It's been a long process for us: almost 6 months in the Fairview band, 4 months in a Doc Band and we just started our second Doc Band two weeks ago. I feel like the first helmet was a waist of time for the most part:( Please, explore your options! There are different types of bands/helmets our there and orthotists with different level of experience. Tatiana > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > Our DD is 4 months old and has torticollis and plagio. Guest guest
We are from NH and went to a hanger for eval. and choose to drive 6 round trip every 2 wks to cranial tech in connecticut. My son had amazing results. and i have run into 2 people with hanger helmets where i live and they aparently only wear for 8 wks and then are done. and both sets of parents were not pleased with results as their childrens heads didnt improve that much. I would totally whole heartedly recomend cranial tech. Guest guest
Hi Tatiana, Thanks for the info. I called Parknicollet and they said the evaluation is free if we can get the refferel from our ped. I am trying to contact our ped right now. I also came to know one more facility for star band called Orthotic Care Services from our physical therapist. The Orthotist's name is Todd Westlake. I don't know which one to choose right now but will probably go with star band. Thanks again, Sammy > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > Our DD is 4 months old and has torticollis and plagio. Guest guest
Sammy , Interview as many orthotists as you can. It also might be useful, because you might hear different opinions about your baby's condition. Maybe your PT can put you in touch with some parents who saw Todd Westlake, so they can share their experience with you. One thing I learned through this process is that other parents experiences/recommendations are more valuable than what the orthotists tell you about how good they are. Guest guest
Hi Tatiana, My baby's head growth rate is 1% from birth. I suppose it would effect the banding time right. Do they reject to band for any reason to 4 month old? Thanks, Sammy From: tatianakmeyer <tatianakmeyer@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thu, May 13, 2010 7:53:08 PMSubject: Re: Anybody has cranialcap experiance Sammy , Interview as many orthotists as you can. Guest guest
If you are talking about percentiles, then my was right with you. No, they wouldn't reject for small or big heads. They might if they suspected some medical issues, but not for size. Re: Anybody has cranialcap experiance Sammy , Interview as many orthotists as you can. Guest guest
Does it take very long to get the results if their growth rate is like this?
