Guest guest
Hello, We're late in beginning and new to the SCD diet. We've just started it with our son. We've read, a few times, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, have perused many hundred messages on this board, listened to many DAN webcasts and the other SCD websites. We've learned a lot but still have some questions. I hope it's okay to ask some basic questions: 1. While our sons's BMs in the past were very loose, he's now more on the constipated side. He was already eating a good amount of vegetables and fruits (along with way too much pasta and bread - his favorites). Is it okay to just jump into the diet without the intro for him? His system, so far, seems okay with that. 2. Any suggestions as to how to substitute a clearly illegal food: Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolattas. He really enjoys going out 2-3 times a week to Dunkin Donuts. It's become part of his social life. He loves to talk to the other folks there, happy to order on his own and sit and drink his CC while socializing. Any ideas as to how to change this habit? Cold turkey? 3. Will we see any benefit if he is still having coffee coolatta's occassionally? Maybe it's wishful thinking, but our son appears less agitated, calmer, happier - even in the first five days. 3. Do we start probiotics about a week after beginning the diet? 4. Same with the homemade yogurt - start that about a week after beginning? 5. Our son has always been very anxious, moody, irritable with aggressiveness on and off for many years. We began a trial of different medications (SSRI's, Antipsychotics, etc.) after many years of not wanting to go down that road. He had a paradoxical reaction to most of the medications, making him more activated. A daily .25mg dose of Risperdal has seemed to help and he's on just that right now. Will that interfere with this diet? We'd like to have him off all medications at some point. We have many more questions but will start with these. Thanks for any comments.
