Hey Terry,

The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Medicaid/Medicare will pay for

this surgery if medically necessary. At 530 pounds, your brother won't have a

hard time gaining approval. Vocational rehabilitation will pay as well. He

needs to make an appointment with his PCP, and he/she should know what to do

in terms of paperwork submission to get him approved. Your brother will

probably have to have the open procedure. I only know of one surgeon who does

a lap (RNY) at his weight. It's Ken Champion in Atlanta, GA. I heard he does

them to 550, but I am not sure.Your brother is over Dr R's weight limit and,

Dr R does not accept state insurance at present.

I have a close friend who started out at 400, and she was easily approved

with Medicaid/Medicare. She is disabled too. We had the same PCP. Thanks for

looking out for him.
