Guest guest
Hey Terry, The answers to your questions are yes and yes. Medicaid/Medicare will pay for this surgery if medically necessary. At 530 pounds, your brother won't have a hard time gaining approval. Vocational rehabilitation will pay as well. He needs to make an appointment with his PCP, and he/she should know what to do in terms of paperwork submission to get him approved. Your brother will probably have to have the open procedure. I only know of one surgeon who does a lap (RNY) at his weight. It's Ken Champion in Atlanta, GA. I heard he does them to 550, but I am not sure.Your brother is over Dr R's weight limit and, Dr R does not accept state insurance at present. I have a close friend who started out at 400, and she was easily approved with Medicaid/Medicare. She is disabled too. We had the same PCP. Thanks for looking out for him. le
