Guest guest
Hi Brittany, Both can be good. Overall CT probably has a more consistent reputation. It might be helpful to post which CT location and which starband provider. We got our starband in the san francisco bay area and had a good experience. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My son is five months old, and after several months of struggling I was finally able to get him a prescription for a helmet to treat his plagiocephaly. My next concern is where to get him treated. He has had an evaluation at Cranial Tech, which is about two and a half hours away, and at a local orthotist that uses the star band. They are both around the same price, the only thing is that one is a lot closer than the other. I only want the very best for my son, and would travel if it would benefit him in the long run. Does anyone out there have any advice for me? It would be greatly appreciated! > > Thank You, > Brittany >
Guest guest
Honestly, I would go local as long as you are comfortable with the provider. The travel time is an issue and extra expense. You will hear people who love CT and people who love STARBand and both are proven to be effective. CT does sometimes require a 2nd helmet, where STAR usually does not. If you feel comfortable with the knowledge of your local orth., then I would recommend that...2.5 hours each way, makes for a 5 hour drive for a 20 minute appointment...not fun. We have our son in a STARBand because of the location and our insurance doesn't cover CT. He has seen tremendous improvement and we will likely be finished next month! My final thought is that you can't go wrong with either brand, so I would go with the one that is more convenient for your family in the long term. > > My son is five months old, and after several months of struggling I was finally able to get him a prescription for a helmet to treat his plagiocephaly. Guest guest
I just wanted to say, money and time mean nothing if you are not comfortable with person treating your son. Definatly go to both and see who you feel more comfortable with. That is the MOST important part of this process!! Yes sometimes the DOC band does require a second band but not always...so make sure that is a question you bring up in your visit. Make your decision on where you are MOST comfortable having your son treated and where your son is MOST comfortable!!! > > > > My son is five months old, and after several months of struggling I was finally able to get him a prescription for a helmet to treat his plagiocephaly. Guest guest
True, but as I said, if she is comfortable with the local option, I would choose it every time! Money and Time do mean something, especially if you have kids. Of course, I want my son to get the best care, but if both providers offer the same service (a helmet) and you like both providers, then to me, I would choose the local one! > > > > Honestly, I would go local as long as you are comfortable with the provider. Guest guest
Thank you so much for the advice. After a lengthy appointment with our local orthotist I feel confident in their ability to treat my son. Unfortunately our insurance will not cover treatment at either place. CT did mention the possibility of our son needing a second band, while if we used the star band he would probably only need one. This is a huge difference for us, since we will be paying out of pocket. Something I also had to consider is that the highway we would need to travel to get to CT often gets shut down to snow and ice during the winter months. This is a concern of mine, since most of the time I would be traveling alone with my son. Thanks again for sharing and congratulations on your son's improvement! > > > > My son is five months old, and after several months of struggling I was finally able to get him a prescription for a helmet to treat his plagiocephaly.
