Guest guest
It sounds like you've had a lot of stressful health situations with your son. I definitely sympathize! Hang in there! You asked, " Has anyone had success with the band or am I just subjecting my baby to embarassment for nothing? " -Yes, I think everyone I've heard from has had at least some improvement with the band, and most have had a lot of improvement. -No, you are not subjecting your baby to embarrassment. Your baby likes when people look at and pay attention to him, and he doesn't think to question why they are paying attention to him. He is not capable of being embarrassed by his appearance, yet. He would be embarrassed when he got older if his plagiocephaly and torticollis were untreated, however. Rest easy, you're doing the right thing for your son. > > My son was born at 33 weeks, 7 weeks early and spent 2 weeks in the NICU unit... he has now been diagnosed with plagiocephaly and torticollis ... he now has the Doc band on. > We just took him to my older son's swim lesson and I felt so bad as all of the children stared at my baby. I feel absolutely horrible. > Has anyone had success with the band or am I just subjecting my baby to embarassment for nothing? >
Guest guest
Just look in the photos section - there are so many success stories! Hopefully you're doing physical therapy for the tort, as well as keeping him in the band. Depending on how old your son is you may already be seeing changes in his head. It is definitely worthwhile. I would recommend decorating it, and explaining it to children. He doesn't need to be embarrassed (of course he's too young anyway). Kids are just curious and will stare at anything new. They will probably think it is cool if you explain it to them. -christine sydney, 4.5 yrs, starband grad > > My son was born at 33 weeks, 7 weeks early and spent 2 weeks in the NICU unit... he has now been diagnosed with plagiocephaly and torticollis ... he now has the Doc band on. > We just took him to my older son's swim lesson and I felt so bad as all of the children stared at my baby. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for the support... we were able to decorate it with his name and some of my older son's racing car stickers. He seems okay with it. Thank goodness that it doesn't bother him. Guest guest
Yes you are definatly making the right decision and I know what you mean about the embarassment thing. I think at first we all kinda feel a little like..what are people going to say? why are people looking at us? look that person is looking and wispering...but then you get to the point where every where you go someone is stopping you saying oh my son had that, oh my neice/nephew had that, oh my grandbaby just got theirs a couple weeks ago. You start to realize how common it really is and then you start seeing the improvement and it really drives it home that you definatly made the right decision. Kids are curious creatures and are going to stare not out of anything besides why is that kid wearing that? they dont understand why .. its a great conversation starter, just make sure if you see a little kid and they are asking dont be afraid to to tell them. They will like that you are telling them why. Our son loves the attention it brings to him, he is always smiling at people and laughing. Good luck with it, and just remember you made the right decision and your son with thank you later!!!
