It's unbelievable that a doctor would advise you to take a WHOLE BOTTLE of

a laxative preparation. No wonder you felt like to die! I can't imagine why he

would do that when there are so many gentlier ways to cure a person of

constipation! I don't know if that would be enough to cause a pancreatitis

attack, but it's such a violent way to treat constipation that it would cause a

serious gastric disturbance!

You do need to be aware that the additional duragesic narcotics will cause

constipation on a daily basis. Many people aren't able to get enough fiber

through natural means (food), to deal with the constipating conditions of

narcotics. I battled that demon for months with my first GI!!! Every visit I

would

tell him that I was constipated, and each time he'd say " increase your fiber

intake " . Bags of dried prunes, prune juice, spinach every night at dinner,

fiber

cereals, then Metamucil, Colace, Senecot, FiberOne.....I tried each any every

natural and articifial fiber food, pill and supplement on the market, and still

had problems with constipation. Even after I developed hemmoroids as a

result, the doctor was still clueless, until Karyn told me about

prescription her doctor gave her for Miralax.

The GI agreed to write me a month's prescription, I started on the Miralax,

which is a tasteless powdered, granular substance that you can mix into

water, juice, tea or even soda, and it will start working within one to three

days. After your first use, it will help you to have regular bowel activity on

a

daily basis, without constipation, diarrhea or pain. Although I wear a

duragesic patch now 24/7, I only have to use the Miralax about 2-3 times a

week, taking just a daily dosage every third day. I've been using it now for

over two years with no ill effects. Why the doctor couldn't have recommended

this for you is the mystery question.

And yes, constipation can cause nausea, at least it does for me. If I get

severely constipated (fortunately I don't anymore), but when I did, I was

nausiated as well.

Ask your doctor for some REAL help with this, and if he advises something as

violent as drinking a WHOLE bottle of magnesium citrate, ask him if he'll

demonstate it first, and let you know what he thought of the results! That

ought to clear him up.........

With love, hope and prayers,

But, what I'm also wondering and anyone else can chime in here....is there a

big connection between getting constipated and getting that SEVERE

nausea? Sure seemed to be to me and now I'm ready to fire my new gastro

doc (snip) because he's the one that told me to take an entire bottle of

magnesium citrate...which I did and I thinkk that may (I HOPE TO GOD NOW

THAT IT WAS!!) what threw my panc into a full blown attack...
