Yesterday was Maysa's one year anniversary graduating from her last DOC band. I took some pictures at different angles and created a new post on her blog. We are still seeing progress. I don't take many pictures like that anymore but I am glad that I occasionally do. It is has been so good to see her do so well even post band.

Wow - that's pretty good. I definitely see the rounding at the base of the head. Interestingly enough, that is also where 's most recent rounding has been. It is the most visible when I put her in a single pony tail. Of course, 's head is growing more slowly than Maysa's. Unfortunately, with , her head is so low on the charts that the actual amount of growth is always so little compared to the average head. Plus, she is older so her growth has slowed down even more. Maysa's head appears to be continuing to grow at a good rate. And, it appears to be all going towards the back.

I think that at this point, you can totally relax about her head because no one will have even had reason to suspect that she ever needed a band. I wonder what it was that allowed her head to continue to get better as much as it has. Maybe that little bit of CST freed things up for her or maybe putting it in the pony tail kept the pressure off of the back. Or, maybe both.

Congratulations

,

I am glad that I take pictures the way I do, otherwise, I probably would think that it is all just in my head.

Maysa's head is still far from looking like that of her sister and most likely never will but then again, although almost everybody tells me that they look like twins, they look so different to me, even in the way their body is shaped. They have different facial features, different fingers and toes, different curves... So, I am trying very hard to stop comparing the two. I think I might actually stop some day.

The CST probably did help, although we stopped a long time ago. I think that the ponytail in the back and the tummy sleep really took any pressure off her back after the helmet came off and allowed it to grow freely. Also, she hasn't slowed down in growth AT ALL. I think that in a year or two, she might be just as tall as her 4 year old sister and bigger too. She is only 3 pounds lighter than her and one size behind her in clothes and shoes. She wears 4T and 5 size clothes and 9.5 W shoes!!! She is not even 2.5 years old yet. She just has a good appetite and bigger body overall from head to toe.

This said, I don't always get her to sleep with the single ponytail anymore. Sometimes she has two and so, she has been sleeping in many different positions lately. I just let it be, because you are right, while I still love seeing improvement in the way her head is reshaping, I am fine with the way it has looked for months now I am not so obsessed anymore about what might happen if she lays on her back too much or not.

I am definitely more at peace with it all.

Leila,

Your pictures are so encouraging! Just today we decided to take the helmet off

my daughter. Her plagio is fixed. She had a CVA of .5mm last visit and .9mm

today, but the scan showed no bossing, flat spots, etc. She didn't regress, the

Starscan just isn't accurate enough to actually get to a zero in my opinion.

But the problem is... she is still close to 85% in the CR number. For her to get

into the 'normal' range under 83% we'd have to have her wear the helmet full

time for at least 2 more months. We just don't think we can do that. It's been 4

1/2 months for a 5.1 mm CVA, which we thought would take 8 weeks max.

So, how did you get Maysa's CR to improve so much without the helmet? She just

looks fabulous. The improvement is striking!

Hi ,

I think that a CI of 85% is not bad at all. When Maysa graduated from her DOC band she was more like at 92% or so by the starscanner. After the band came off, I would fix her hair in a single ponytail in the back only so that it would "bother" her if she tried to sleep on her back. Therefore, she started sleeping on her tummy or her sides. Eight months later, the starscanner showed that her CI was at 88%. I was delighted. After January, I stopped obsessing about the way she slept at night and right now, she sleeps in many different positions, including her back, yet, her head keeps getting better. I think the genetics is kicking in at last :)

I hope your daughter's head rounds out even more and if she is young enough to keep her off her back at night, the ponytail trick might be something that could work for her as well.

Good luck,

Leila,

I do the same with Aidan and , especially with their heads. In their case, Aidan is the larger child (90th percentile). is in 2T (with a few 3T) at nearly 3. Aidan wore a 2T when he was 12 months old. Because he is older than , the differences are not as evident.

If I spend too much time comparing the length of their heads, then I start driving myself crazy. Of course, he also has a large head and needed a child size bike helmet at 2.5 years. still wears infant sized hats. As you said, their heads will never be the same. I believe that Aidan is probably around a 78 percent with a near 0 plagio number - a perfect head. I just keep reminding myself that it isn't fair to compare with a perfect head.
