Guest guest
My son will be 11 months on the 22nd of March and has mild/moderate plagio on the right side. He measured at 7-8mm which is close to the norm but we decided to get him the helmet since he is a boy and its not that easy to cover up. We didn't get any support from our ped. who was just prolonging the process because he wanted me to see a neurosurgeon to support his view that " it will fix itself. " I am came on here for support meanwhile googled for companies who will make helmets and had no luck. Finally after a stressful three months, someone contacted me on Babycenter group and gave me a number of an ortho. guy who her little one was seeing. Anyways, we are finally getting the helmet next week after wanting to get this done since he was 4 months. I just concerned that we won't see much approvement because of his age. Does anyone have experience with getting the helmet/band at a later age. I am guessing that he will be wearing it for at least 4-6 months. I over heard too that if there soft spot closes, the helmet won't make any difference anymore. Is that true?
Guest guest
My son received his at 13 months. He wore his first band for 15 weeks, I think. Then he went straight into his second band. His graduation date is set for 3/28. So, he will have worn a band for 7.5 months. We have seen amazing results and I don't regret it one bit. I think you will see change, it will just take a little longer to see it compared to how quickly you would see change in a 6 month old. Their heads are still growing at that age, just slower. :-) Best of luck to you! > > My son will be 11 months on the 22nd of March and has mild/moderate plagio on the right side. Guest guest
My daughter got her starband at 5 months. However I've been in this group for nearly 5 years (I'm one of the moderators) and I can tell you there are lots and lots of success stories at 11 months and older. I know of babies who had good progress starting as late as 17 months. Starting by 6 months is ideal, starting by 1 year is great. You should still see significant changes even if you are starting now. It is a shame your ped wasn't more helpful, but unfortunately that is very common. Let us know how he does in his helmet. -christine sydney, 5 yrs starband grad > > My son will be 11 months on the 22nd of March and has mild/moderate plagio on the right side.
