Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I just got in and saw your message. Give me a few hours to look stuff up about the insulin as I have no personal experience with it (I am not diabetic, nor do I monitor / or run tests on this - it is outside my special area of expertise). So I will just have to give you textbook information which, as we know, may not reflect real life. But it will give you a starting place. Off hand though.....I am a little alarmed at the casual approach that your nurse is taking to your thryoid antibodies. In my opinion (which is not that familiar with thyroid antibodies, just the rheum ones) this should be looked at much more closely.....maybe even more diagnostics on the thyroid itself for nodules / masses. Thryroid problems are very common in women and usually they can be treated quite successfully. But left untreated, they can be harmful. I would highly recommend that you get a second opinion from a specialist - an ENT doc or endocrinologist. The fact that your insulin is high also makes me think that you should be looked at more closely by an endocrinologist. It could be nothing, or it could be something significant. It seems that you need to be worked up for auto-immunity problems - the whole gamut maybe (?). You definitely need to get in to see a specialist. NPs are ok for the simple preventive stuff.....but I do not have much confidence in them when it comes to esoteric conditions like auto-immunity and / or endocrine problems. Especially since you are having severe symptoms with the thryoid condition. But this is just my opinion based on " you'd rather be safe than sorry " type of thinking. It could all be nothing, but then it could be something easily treatable, or it could even be something serious that you do not want to let go for any longer. Who knows ?, but you deserve to get an opinion from someone that specializes in thyroid / endocrine problems. Give me some time to delve into the insulin issue. I will get back to you but in the meantime maybe someone who has personal experience with this test can give you more practical information. I am sorry about your son too......it seems with all the experiences that you are relating about that clinic you may be bettter off finding a new one. The big " brush off " , after having events that have proved them wrong previously, sure doesn't inspire much confidencen nor does it give you a reason to show loyalty towards them, I would think. I promise I will find more info for you as I get breaks in my day! Laurie On another board that I haunt, there is a lady that is in charge of a thyroid disorders association / bulletin board / support group. I will try to find the link to her board because I really, really think you should learn more about this and not ignore the significance of those lab tests. I do not think it is just a matter of " masking " the symptoms with meds....but that you need to find out why they are even there. I understand that everyone has a certain level of certain autoantibodies at various times in their lives....and she is probably right that higher levels can indicate a transient infection of the thryoid...but, it is not appropriate, I think, to just dismiss these lab results and conclude that you have " thyroiditis " , without investigating more thoroughly the reasons why and to not look at the whole picture. But then, I do not know the whole story either and I could be completely wrong too. It is very hard to say to take what I am writing with some degree of scepticism, please...........
