Guest guest
I've been searching the *large* archives for info on anti oxidant therapy. Particularly how much of each one, doctor's monitoring of it, and if the levels vary according to your blood tests or activity levels. I was wondering if people who are/have been taking this could post about thier experiences with it. I'm sure it would be helpful to many people. I've recently read an interesting book about anti oxidants in general, but it did not address pactreatitis in particular. This book advocates taking large doses of C, beta-carotene, and E. I've read that the Manchester clinic recomends more though.... Thanks, KY
Guest guest
, If you searched through our archives you should have been able to find several posts with much of this information, but I would be happy to repeat to you the amounts that I've been taking for the last three and a half years. 600 units selenium 9,000 U Beta Carotene ..54 grams Vitamin C 270 U Vitamin E 2 grams l-methionine These are the recommended dosages of the Manchester Royal Infirmary Antioxidant therapy trials. I started this therapy on my own, because my first doctor held little faith in it's effectiveness, but I noticed a difference in my pain levels, so it was my decision to continue. I've not adjusted these amounts in any fashion. I also take supplemental folic acid, B-12, magnesium and grapeseed extract. I do not see that GI any more, and haven't for the past two and a half years. Although all my current doctor(s) are aware that I take these supplements, no particular testing had been done, although I have had extensive blood tests done twice each year by the GI who treats me now, who is a bit of a fanatic about bloodwork. This past October, the Pancreatologist at the Mayo Clinic ran a series of specific blood tests to check my levels in all of these, except the methionine. Apparently, everything came back satisfactory for him, because no further adjustments were made, nor did he recommend any changes to my current antioxidant regimen. I've only had one hospitalization in three and a half years caused by a chronic pancreatitis attack. I think that speaks for itself. If there's anything else I can help you with, please post again.
