Guest guest
Hi: I just spoke with a nurse at Chiron Corporation regarding their instructions in the Tobi information for cleaning nebulizers. They recommend using vinegar. I told her about the CFF organization website that now states that vinegar should not be used for cleaning. The fact sheet is called " Stopping the Spread of Germs " . (http://www.cff.org/images/customcontent/Respiratory_--_Stopping_the_Spread_of_G\ erms.pdf) The nurse was unaware of the current recommendations and said she will pass this information on to the company so the correct information will be provided to patients. She said vinegar was approved as a cleaning agent when Tobi was developed several years ago. I am very concerned that people may be causing harm by using vinegar for cleaning. Guest guest
I think the problem comes when people (including Chiron) confuse " cleaning " with " disinfecting. " Our CF Clinic here in Denver recently presented on the subject, and said vinegar is fine for cleaning- it's very effective at breaking up stuck on debris or buildup. The caveat to that is that following cleaning with vinegar, the item must be disinfected by some other process- dishwasher, diluted bleach solution, microwaving, etc. Elias TOBI, cleaning nebulizers Hi: I just spoke with a nurse at Chiron Corporation regarding their instructions in the Tobi information for cleaning nebulizers.
