Guest guest
Hi everyone, Thank you for all of the previous assistance. I'm hoping you can assist me further in interpreting measurements from two sources and provide me with your experiences. Would you band your child with these measurements? Have you banded your child with these measurements? What was the outcome? Background on my daughter: She is currently 9 months on Jan. 9th. This problem was first discovered around 3-4months old, but no physician would write a prescription for a helmet or PT. I took her to a chiropractor that determined that her vertebrae were out of alignment in the cervical area, which caused a host of issues: pinching a nerve when turning left, inability to raise right arm past her shoulder, etc. The chiro also performed CranioSacral Therapy, but this was not the sole reason for the treatment. I've also been aggressively repositioning my daughter, wearing her in a baby carrier, etc.) The measurements are below. I will try to use the same measurements for comparison. If there are any missing numbers that contribute to making a judgment, please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated. CT Report (5 3/4 months old)-measured by hand Cranial Width: 119mm Cranial Length: 143mm Cephalic Index: 83.2 Circumference: 44mm Cranial Vault Asymmetry: 17mm Mid-Face Asymmetry: 2mm Skull-Base Asymmetry: 4mm STARScanner (8 3/4 Months) Cranial Base Width: 112.9mm Cranial Length: 141.7mm What's the comparison using StarScan reports for Cephalic Index? Circumference: 435.9mm (rounded I'm guessing this is 44mm) Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI): 3.5mm I don't see comparable measurements for mid-face and skull base. Other measurements: Vertex Height: 103.3mm Ear Offset: 5.5mm Based on the measurements obtained by StarScanner, Tanner at Monroe Orthotics in Brooklyn, NY (More info further down) advised me not to put a helmet on my daughter, but will do one if we choose to. At this point, due to none of the measurements being 6mm or more apart, our insurance will no longer pay for the treatment. Thank you in advance for any help provided. In order to assist someone else, Tanner at Monroe Orthotics seemed very helpful during his free evaluation and had many positive reports from his clients (I asked everyone who came through the door). Guest guest
This example really shows the error in hand measurements. According to these, your daughter's head circumferance got smaller in the three months between measurements. Since that is not likely, I would go with the STARscanner results since those are computer generated. The current cranial index is 79.7 percent, which is right in the average range (i.e. no brachy). To get this number, you divide the width by the length. Normal for cranial vault assymetry index is up to 3. It looks like her plagio would be considered very mild. STARscans don't give you numbers for mid face and skull base. Look for the numbers for upper facial symmetry (or something like that). It gives you a percentage, which you want to be in the 90's. You'll also want to look at the overall symmetry percentage, which again should be in the 90s. To be honest, I don't think that I would do a band based upon those numbers. It looks like your efforts with the chiro, CST, and the repositioning have paid off. Guest guest
Hi, I have a question regarding the reports. How do I know which cranial length to follow in the StarScan Report? There were 5 sections with Level 2 to Level 8. I used the original Section (0) report on the front page when providing the numbers before. Also, what role does the vertex height play? What is the norm? Section 0 was: Cranial Length 141.7mm Cranial Base Width 112.9 Cephalic Ratio= .899 Section 3 Cranial Length 160mm Cranial Base Width 112.9 Cephalic Ratio= .784 Section 5: Cranial Length 150mm Cranial Base Width 112.9 Cephalic Ratio .835 Her Upper Facial Symmetry Ratio is .978 Overall Symmetry Ratio is .950 What are the norms for upper face and overall symmetry? Also, based on these numbers, would I be able to see correction with my daughter's ears with a band if they are 5.5mm apart or am I wasting my money/time putting one on her? Insurance will no longer pay. Any help provided is greatly appreciated. percent, which is right in the average range (i.e. no brachy). To get this number, you divide the width by the length. Guest guest
The actual level that counts and corresponds to where hand measurements are taken is the level 3. I'm not sure what is normal for the other levels. In terms of the symmetry ratios, those numbers are great. You are looking for numbers upwards of 90 or 92 percent (depending upon the measure). As far as the ears, I'm not sure what to say. I believe that other members have gotten correction, but I'm not sure how often that happens. , mom to , 28 months STARband grad May 2009 Chiro and CSt land Measurement Interpretation Needed Hi everyone,Thank you for all of the previous assistance.
