Guest guest
My surgeon and I are trying once again to have the tp/ict in Cincinatti OH. Evidently they have the most up to date equipment that allow the islet cells to be transplanted immediately after harvest. I have already had a transduodenal sphincteroplasty and a Beger procedure, a whipple that preserves the pyloric sphincter as well as the duodenum. I went back to work after both procedures but didn't last a month each time. However, your pancreas is obviously much stronger then mine. Eight weeks after the beger and I still had a hard time wearing anything ever so slightly around my waist. I am curious of one thing however. If its none of my business just say so. But if your not having a great deal of pain and only have minimal gi disruption why not wait until summer for the procedure. Then you could recouperate at a much less hurried pace. What did you think of the octreotide injection. Did it help you at all? I have had maybe 7 or 8 injections and at first it made a big difference. Cecilia just from my own experiences as a nurse and what I have encountered with my procedures, I dont think 6 weeks is long enough to recover appropriately from such a big operation. It could take up to a year before your back to 100% and no amount of rushing is going to change that. I hope I am not sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, but maybe I went back to work too soon and caused myself more problems. There's no way to know for sure. This first year in your new dream job is going to be hard enough without having to feign strength you dont have by returning to work too soon after a whipple. Just think about it. My thoughts are only for your well being. Warmly, Chrissy
