Guest guest
Hi Darren, Thanks for the nice message! I expect it was a gastroenterologist who referred you to Dr Sutherland? It was my gastro at the Royal Liverpool Hospital who referred me to the pancreatic team in the same hospital. He is not a surgeon, of course, and did warn me to take a balanced view when I received the advice of the surgeons as well!! Physicians and surgeons are always a bit like that!! Anyway, in the end, the Professor (surgeon) who leads the pancreatic team, agreed that my op should be put on ice for the time being as I have now had several months with much less pain than before. This is definitely down to Creon and, just possibly, progression towards burn-out. Some people are lucky and get much less pain as the pancreas burns out and is no longer functional because of all the damage. Others proceed to intractable and almost constant severe pain. I'm sure if your gastro and Dr Sutherland both think the surgery is a good idea, then it must be. Darren, it doesn't matter what the cause of the CP is. Many people drink a lot of alcohol, are even alcoholic, and never get CP. You are still unfortunate to have had this reaction. You are still ill and it makes no difference why. However, I think it's a good thing if you can reduce pain meds before the op, as you seem to be doing, because it makes it more likely that you won't need them afterwards. At least, that's the view of my very experienced pancreatologist. Heavy dependence on pain meds can remain in some people even when the panc has gone. Well, I wish you the very best of luck with your surgery. It will be done by one of the best in the world, as you know!! With good wishes, Fliss (UK)
