Guest guest
I guess I forgot to knock on wood when I was answereing the posts on ketones. Olivia's been vomiting all night, has the runs and the gravol hasn't really kicked in. She's spilling large amount of ketones (150) but her blood sugars are normal (5.3) in Canada it's a different testing system 3-7 is normal range. She's had 3 sips of gatorade and a gulp of water. I guess I'll wait a bit more before taking her in?? I hate being so indecisive when these things happen!!!!! any advice would be so greatly appreciated!!!!! I'm going to phone the dr and see what he says. Is she still ok because her blood sugars are normal? Guest guest
Hi Leah I don't know what to say for sure. I have never had Adam do this, thank God! He use to stop eating when he was little if he didn't feel well, but that was many many years before I had heard of RSS or hypo-g. However, from my readings on this group, and I am sure others with more experience will chime in soon (!!!) I gather things can change really fast in regards to her sugar levels. In other words, from what I understand, if you were to go to emerg. now with her sugars fine, they are not going to give you an I.V. (and from what others say, even with the sugars low they have an incredibly hard time getting the I.V.) BUT at the same time, Olivia could just nose dive on you suddenly and then you'll have to go quickly. You are stuck. Any chance she would take some Popsicles? maybe that's why Adam never had a bad issue, because no matter what, I could at least get freezies or pop sickles into him. And I got to the point where there are ALWAYS freezies in the freezer " just in case " (I think there are some at the bottom NOW, gee they'd be about 4 years old now LOL maybe I better replace my stash while I am thinking of it). I sure hope this is a quick bug for Olivia. You don't need to be worrying about her right now!!! Take care and hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. Just know I'm thinking of you. And do yourself a favour and knock on wood next time!!! Debby Olivia's Sick, a little help please I guess I forgot to knock on wood when I was answereing the posts on ketones. Guest guest
It is NOT okay for Olivia to be spilling a large amount of ketones whether her blood sugar levels are okay or not. She needs the old routine of going to the hospital, being on an IV with D10, flushing out the ketones and staying on IV support until she is eating normally again. This could take up to 5 days or even more. Do NOT leave the hospital with them telling you that she is rehydrated and she can go home. She does not have enough glycogen storage to make up for what she has lost. You will only wind up back in there with her in a few days and she will be much sicker. She must stay until she is eating normally and can keep food down. Jodi Z
Guest guest
LEAH - Jodi is so correct! I just went through this!! Please go to the hospital and please make sure Olivia is eating, drinking, etc " normally " (not just a little bit) but " normally " because if she isn't - she will end up back in the hospital like Ian. He spent way more time than he should have - and more IV's than he should have because we kept bringing him home when he was " just " eating. Let us know what you decide and how she is doing. - H > > I guess I forgot to knock on wood when I was answereing the posts on > ketones.
