Guest guest
Hi, CT has been adjusting our doc band everytime we come for a visit (once a week), and just noticed that one of the sides of the band is deeper than the other they have been shaving much more in one back side than the other, Im wondering if this is normal? And would think it bothers my son, but unsure. Anyone with similar issue? Thanks

Guest guest
Does your son have brachy or plagio? My son had plagio and his bands were only ever shaved out on one side (the prominent side was never touched - however he was much older so growth wasn't very fast - not sure if they shave both sides for much younger plagio babies). If it's brachy, it generally would be shaven out evenly, however, what does your son's head look like right now? If it is growing faster on one side than the other, that side would not need as much adjusting so that they can encourage the other side to catch up. I think if his head looks like it's improving in the proper direction, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. But if you're still concerned, ask your therapist about it. Guest guest
CT shaved our band out on one side only (severe plagio). So, from that vertical midline in the back of the helmet to the opening on the right side, there was much less foam. And the place you could really see the difference between the right and left side in terms of foam thickness was in the center of the back of the helmet. I asked about it, too, thinking it had to be bothersome to my son since it created a vertical ridge that he'd feel when he laid down...but CT assured me all was well. And it really didn't seem to bother my son at all. He still slept on his back exclusively with no sleep issues. It makes sense that his right side wouldn't be shaved out at all, since we didn't want growth there. The growth was directed to the left side, which was getting fuller - so that's where we eventually ran out of foam to shave down. It did look, though, like it would be very uncomfortable. Thankfully, these sweet babies in bands are so resilient, right? :-) Jill Cade's mom (DOC Band 6/18/09-8/5/09) *getting DOC Band #2 on 9/29/09 Texas > > > > Hi, > > > > CT has been adjusting our doc band everytime we come for a visit (once a > > week), and just noticed that one of the sides of the band is deeper than the > > other they have been shaving much more in one back side than the other, Im > > wondering if this is normal? Guest guest
I got my right and left sides mixed up in the note below. Don't want to confuse anyone! His plagio was on the right side. Foam was thinner on right side. Not shaved down at all on the back left. Growth was directed to the right side. > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > CT has been adjusting our doc band everytime we come for a visit (once a > > > week), and just noticed that one of the sides of the band is deeper than the > > > other they have been shaving much more in one back side than the other, Im > > > wondering if this is normal?
