Guest guest
Missy Anne - no g-tube. But, during times like these - I wish he did. I checked his blood sugars after he ate dinner (which wasn't very much - a couple of bites of yogurt, two small spoon fulls of peas w/butter, a tablespoon of ceaser salad dressing, a bite of steak and 3 bites of bread with butter - remember, these are " little " bites)and his sugars were 331 ! I was speaking to a friend on the phone and she conjectures that Ian may be coming down with something - I agree - probably a cold. I'll have to wake him up in the middle of the night to try to feed him. I'm just not sure at what point I should be checking his blood sugars. I mean - should I check them while he's sleeping? Should I have checked them again after that huge increase? Obviously it was high because of eating - but, 331 is more than I ever imagined it should be. I didn't check them before bed because he drank about 5 ozs of his Nutren Jr. - which is a supplement he takes. I tried to give him water - but, he wanted nothing to do with it after one sip. This recent illness really took a lot out of him - his reserves I mean. Thanks for the response. - H > Well, when Ian got home from the hospital - he was literally eating > like a Piggy. Guest guest
H- I'm not sure what to say? I'm not very educated on the whole subject....If it were me I would check it again to make sure that it came back down! I can totally relate to the no reserve thing....I'm sorry your in the cycle of spinning in circles! Its no fun at all. I hope someone more informed on the subject will respond to your cry for answers! Praying for you! Missy Anne advocate22003 wrote: Missy Anne - no g-tube. Guest guest
, You really should contact Dr. H regarding this blood sugar stuff. There is obviously some instability going on. I know she is leaving on Friday for a week, so tomorrow would be best to call. I know it's scary, but it's better that you take care of it now. As for checking his sugars, I would do it at regular intervals during the day and see if there is a pattern. Check them every 3 to 4 hours and record the number as well as whether or not he has just eaten, what he ate, what he was doing, etc. Having a diary like this can reveal a lot of information. Guest guest
Jodi - thanks. I was afraid of that. I HATE sticking him and he cries and it just kills me. I'm so afraid he's going to hate me. He's only 2.5 yrs old and I know he doesn't understand. I'm a little worried about him though. I hope I don't get yelled at for checking him more often today. This is all so new to me and because he isn't " really " sick - I wasn't sure what to do. Thanks for the info - I will definately call her first thing. - H > > , > > You really should contact Dr. H regarding this blood sugar stuff. > There is obviously some instability going on.
