Guest guest
Hi , Yes it does cost alot, but hopefully insurance, gov't or even the drug companies will help out. We got that big scare a month ago when we were getting our endo apt set up ... the receptionist or secretary said that it cost $20,000-$40,000 Canadian and that insurance won't cover it unless it is for " dwarfism " ... my husband almost flipped a noodle and shortly after that we found this site and will hopefully work through it. We haven't started yet and haven't yet gotten the results from the testing. HOpefully next week. There are ways ... which I'm sure more people will respond to. Interesting show that brought up more questions for us too ... and those kids were growth hormone deficient. Guest guest
Hi , My son is on growth hormone. We use a pen device just like one of the ones shown on 20/20. His growth hormone comes in 3 vials of 5.8g each. I asked the growth hormone company and they told me each vial costs $300. So our cost is about $1000 a month. If for some reason you can't afford it, some of the growth hormone providers will give it for free for a short period of time. Ask your pediatric endo for assistance in obtaining growth hormone , if it is not covered by insurance. I think 20/20 used some old numbers or the retail price if you bought it directly from them without the benefit of insurance or a prescription drug benefit. I hope others can share what their costs are. I hope this helps. Ken M > > I'm watching the 20/20 story on kids who take HGH. > They said it costs about $30,000 a year. Guest guest
Hi I just finished watching that as well. I have never heard of any of our kids getting those head aches. But I do know it was explained to me as a possible side affect. For us? The cost is 32,000.00 a year. But then again that's Canadian bucks!! LOL We use 1600.00 every 18 days. Lucky for me, a HUGE lucky for me, my insurance (work insurance) pays 100% of that. I'm not sure what to make of that piece on 20/20. I think they just wanted to stir the controversy (again) that we parents are pushing our kids to become things they are not and it's up to us to teach them to be happy as they are and stop trying to improve, improve, improve. Of course they didn't spend much time on the boy (notice he was GHD) the girl meanwhile didn't have a diagnosis given on the show, and they spent way more time on her. They did not discuss, AT ALL, the long lasting OTHER benefits of GH for GHD kids. Ah the media always has to put their spin on it eh? Deb Does it really cost that much? I'm watching the 20/20 story on kids who take HGH. They said it costs about $30,000 a year. Is that true? I " m freaking out here! We are going through the Shriners for other problems.. and have genitic testing next month... If the Shriners discover has RSS... is the HGH covered through them? I know I " m full of questions... kinda panicy. Do your kids have these bad headaches they were talking about on TV? Oh.. so much to learn. __________________________________ Yahoo!
