( really good supper last night) BUT, Hello, something happened this morn thats not happeded in 3 wks. small amt of Blood in toilet. x2, that was this morning , now, at 1:00 pm just now, he made a formed stool. wonder of wonders But what about the Blood? HELP. First, don't worry too much - with UC that can happen from time to time and you guys are really doing great on improvement. Second, did you introduce some new food in the last two or three days? Third, he might very well have had the blood because he had the formed stool firming in his intestine and the intestinal walls are still not all healed and passing that stool caused some bleeding - the way a scraped knee can get scraped again on the way to healing. Ask him if he had any gut sensitivity last night/this morning until he passed the stool. Mara

Guest guest
I'd try making him a hearty meat soup with beef or veal bones instead of chicken soup. You can add meatballs to the soup as well. It's a good change of pace from the chicken soup. Also, how about some grape or cider gelatin from grape juice or cider. The more gelatin the better in the beginning. It's such an easy food from a digestive POV, not to mention the fact that it is also healing. Also - the pumpkin pie filling from the book is very good. Also, is he eating bananas? That's a good source of weight - give him cool weather smoothies with bananas and yogurt and diluted juice and water and ice, or a savory one with yogurt and tomato juice and avocado, water salt, pepper to taste, like a cold soup. You could also add in chicken broth or chicken meat to that one and blend it all up. And for next week, if you have pecans, I'd try grinding them into pecan butter - that will help with weight, and once he can eat that w/out suffering symptoms, there's a lot more he can eat. But go slowly with that one, since he may have a reaction to that. The diet is a lot of work, and it sounds like you're really working hard to try to make food that is easy to digest by still tastes good. You only joined this group a few days ago and you said you aren't very good with the computer, but you're just jumping right in! And I'm so glad Barney's feeling better! Formed BMs are wonderful things =) Cheers!Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Prednisone 10 mg 1x per day (trying to wean!!!!) Guest guest
It sounds you you are doing quite well, really, and so is Barney. I know blood gets scary. I have IBS so that's not a consideration usually, but a couple of weeks ago I actually go a bit C for a day or two, and ouch! I saw blood. Don't know if I annoyed a hemmorhoid or if it was a little fissure but it healed in a few days. But for a couple more days the first time I went in the morning, a little more blood. It always seems a bit crazy to me that both C and D can annoy things and you'll see blood sometimes. Good luck,

Have you introduced anything new in the last couple of days? Also, it's possible that since he had formed stool forming in his intestine and the intestinal walls are really tender, that passing that stool caused some bleeding. Sort of like (ouch) re-scraping your knee and taking the scab off. There will always be regressions, but they should gradually get fewer and fewer. Guest guest
You bet you need to push on gently! Man that size needs calories! I have another post which shows how to figure out how many calories you should get down him. <g> And yes, all of us have been there and done that, and we've all had embarrassing questions to ask. It's good to know you aren't alone! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
