hormone fed animals and puberty

Hi Everyone!!

I was recently reminded after watching a show about how some kids

are starting puberty as early as 9. They believe because of the

hormones cows and chickens are fed. Don't our kids have an increased

risk of this? Has anyone gone organic? Does this have anything to do

with the bone age test? If not, what was it people have this test for?

Thanks!!

Hi Ellen,

Thank you. What does the Lupron do for this condition? I thought I remembered

reading that growth can cease if this happens, is that right? Is this why some

have the bone age test? Does everyone have this test done at some point? Or just

those showing signs of puberty? Still trying to figure this out.

Thanks,

Yes. Go organic. Milk also. I wish I had started sooner. Mikey began showing

signs of puberty at age 8. At age 9 she is in full blown puberty and on

Lupron .

Don't know if it will make a difference but I have been reading articles

that suggest that it is one of the things that is thought to be causing our

children (girls especially) to be beginning puberty so early.I would try it.

Lupron suppresses the production of estrogen and delays puberty so that

there can be a few more years of growth. It is a shot given every 28 days. The

only growth that will stop is the " growth spurt " of puberty which will occur

when Lupron is discontinued. Our endo doesn't like to use it for more than 2

years because he says that it leeches minerals from the bones.

Bone age is tracked because if it advances too quickly it causes the bones

to fuse and growth stops. We have had a yearly bone age test (hand Xray) since

she was diagnosed at 13 months. Her bone age jumped from 7 to 9 when she was

8years old. Before that it was below or at her chronological age.

Hope this helps ( and makes any sense)

Ellen
