Guest guest
Hello all, I've been seeing a few threads here on kidneys latley and thought I'd do a bit of looking into it since Olivia's recent bout with the flu and spilling ketones. Now granted I've only started looking this up there seems to be a direct correlation between severe ketoacidosis and some kidney problems. Keep in mind that ketosis and ketoacidosis are 2 different things. *Ketosis occurs when fat breaks down is turned into ketones for use as fuel by the body. Side effects can be... - Fat loss - Decreased Hunger - Less cravings for carbs - Increased energy - Improved mood I think that the latter two would pertain to people wanting to loose weight. *Ketoacidosis happens when blood pH becomes too low. Ketoacidosis cannot occur unless you have type I diabetes and have no access to insulin or complete starvation for 3-5 days. (I believe in our small children that occurs much faster) From what I gather about the process ketones are an acid that can cause scar tissue on the kidneys if the condition gets serious turning into ketoacidosis. I have NO idea how much exposure there would have to be. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE take all of this with a " grain of salt " !!! I am not a medical doctor nor do I play one on TV!!! This was only an internet Google search and we all know that everything on the internet is NOT accurate. (I could make a web page on brain surgery or rocket science and people might take it for the gospel) I was curious about the possible correlation and I'm going to be doing some more looking into it, who knows it might be a bunch of bunk. Please let's all keep an open mind and just research for a bit, I would be so dissapointed if I just caused a panic on the listserve!!
