He's on the verge of his first surgery, which I'm so desperate to try and prevent. I just learned about SCD a week ago. We haven't started yet but I'm gathering as much info as possible. So far I'm lacking ideas for his school lunches. Any tips? Thanks! Grateful to have found this group.
Guest guest
Hi , I take my lunch to work everyday. I just ordered the bento lunch kit from Amazon that was recommended here. Today I have chicken soup in a thermos which I am going to add a half an avocado to. I also have sauteed kale with onions and garlic and a hamburger. Tonight I am making beef soup in my crockpot which I will take with me tommorrow. I also bring baked chicken with carrots a lot. I'm sure pecanbread.com has a lot of ideas. Take care, June > > Hi, I'm gearing up to start the SCD for my 11 year old son with Crohn's. He's on the verge of his first surgery, which I'm so desperate to try and prevent. Guest guest
Hi and welcome! Someone was actually just asking about this and one of our members wrote a response that I thought might be helpful to you. See below -Joanna > > sandwiches are always great. Do you have a good bread recipe? Oh wait - is the school nut free? That would be hard. I make cheese sandwiches for DH to take to work. He doesn't like much else, but you can always do turkey or anything else you would put on a sandwich. > > I also make all sorts of things into pancakes. Regular pancakes, chicken, squash, cheese (DCCC) - DH likes finger foods. If you need any recipes, let me know. > Chips are great too. I make zuchini chips in my dehydrator with olive oil and salt. (I used to make them in the oven). >Will she eat eggs - hard boiled are easy and travel well. > > Good luck!
Guest guest
Thanks, , for your response. I just made a big batch of chicken soup last night. I can hardly wait to get home and try your Chicken /veggie patties. Sounds yummy. > > Hi, I'm gearing up to start the SCD for my 11 year old son with Crohn's. Guest guest
Thanks, June. I hope your new Bento kit works well for you. We might need to buy one, too. Please let me know how you like it. Thanks again. > > > > Hi, I'm gearing up to start the SCD for my 11 year old son with Crohn's. Guest guest
Thanks Joanna. Because I'm new to this group there are some acronyms I don't know yet. Can you tell me what DCCC is? I need to ask my son's school if they are nut free. Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention. Do you have a dehydrator? If so, can you suggest a brand and model? Thanks again > > > > sandwiches are always great. Do you have a good bread recipe? Oh wait - is the school nut free? That would be hard. I make cheese sandwiches for DH to take to work. Guest guest
You're welcome. I just made a big batch of salmon patties and froze them. That would be easy too. For a dehydrator, I highly recommend the nine-tray Excalibur. It's great for making yogurt and a million other things. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Also, if you want to see a picture of the label of the brand that makes DCCC that most of us use, go to: Files < Getting Started < DCCC.pdf I get mine at Whole Foods and they are pretty receptive to ordering it in if needed. I hope you can get it! -Joanna > DCCC = dry curd cottage cheese. If you can't find > it, you can do what I did my first four years, > and substitute well-drained yogurt cheese.
