Guest guest
Carol, There was a story in the papers here not to long ago about a cat. This family had moved about 30km to a new house. Of course, they brought their cat with them. The kitty came up missing soon thereafter. One of their old neighbors called them to say that the cat showed up there. This kitty found it's way back home. Apparently, the cat did this one more time. The owners decided to keep the kitty indoors after that. (I have always kept mine indoors.) What I am saying is that animals can go great distances. I would recommend putting an ad in the paper. Possibly a spot on the local radio station. They do nice things at Christmas time. Hopefully, there would be no charge. Dawn

Guest guest
I just called the local Animal Shelter to give them my name and number and report the cat as missing. I'll try calling a neighbor or two to see if they have seen such a cat in the area before. (They should see the flyers around 2 when the mail comes.) Maybe I will take an ad out in the local paper. I just know someone is grieving this morning about her and that hurts me. I hope this all works. Will I keep it if no owner shows up? Sigh...who knows. I'm a pretty ripped body builder but I am mush inside Thanks for the suggestions so far and... Guest guest
Carol...........the police in our are (PGH, PA) have a network that extends to the neighboring states........if anyone reports a pet missing it is put on bulletins and any animal mathching that description is reunited with their owner. I feel bad for the owner too......one of my favorite kitties got lost 2 years ago and I STILL miss him horrible. He was never " found " so I just pray that someone really loves him and is taking good care of him!! P. Any ideas?? Guest guest
Carol, Your a good heart to take in that kitty. I, too, hope you keep her (him?) if the owner cannot be located. Poor baby. My pet cockatiel flew out of the house many years ago and disappeared (yes, I was stupid and left the door open). I blanketed the area with lost and found flyers (stapled to every telephone pole and stop sign) within a one mile radius. I also contacted the local shelter (which you have done), local pet stores (dropped off flyers there) and local vets in the area (dropped off flyer). Well, one vet called me back to say that a kid who lived across the street from the vet's office had found a cockatiel and brought it in for an exam. I started knocking on doors in the area, and lo and behold, they had my Pookie! The kid gave her back to me. Later that night, I receive a call from the kids father asking if the kid can get the reward that I had offered in the flyer, since the kid was out the cost of visiting the vet and buying a cage and food. To which I asked, if you saw the flyer and knew I was offering a reward, why didn't you call me to return my bird? He didn't have an answer for that, jerk, but I went ahead and gave the kid some $ since he obviously was going to take good care of her. Guest guest
Carol, I'd keep her if you want her, she sounds FANTASTIC! But, due diligence first... - Call the animal shelter and describe her. If you really feel like a hero, go there and look through the lost pets listing. - Put a Found ad in the Little Nickel and any other freebie papers. And start calling her Mom! ;-) Z Open RNY 09/17/01 http://www.ziobro.us http://www.GreatKibble.com Any ideas?? OT...but please read! Guest guest
The sad thing is, that as in indoor cat, no one WLL have seen her wandering. My big black beautiful Bart let himself out one early morning. No one would have seen him, of course. And we had not lived here long (we had lived 2 mi away). WE did door to door, flyers, the whole thing and poof. 15 lbs of huge declawed cat, gone. He was Don's or vice versa. And, of course, he scraped his break-away collar off when he squeezed out thru the little crack he made. WE had the collar, but at least he shoulda had flat hair there. One of the worst stories I heard was the boyfreind who took the girl's dog 100 mi and dropped her. My step dtr found her and had her 6 months before some miracle occurred and girl & dog were reunited. It was hard on my step, but good for everyone else (you'd have to know my step's mother). So, it's always possible that the cat was lifted from point A and deposited in point B. I'd like to think that Bart was as lukcy as your Precious Princess and found someone who was so enthralled that they just never found the route back to us, and not for lack of trying. Guest guest
I lost my precious Ed for 1 week, he got out of the car while I went swimming. It was a balmy July day I left the windows down more as his hip had been bothering him. One night in the middle of the night his cookie jar just up and jumped off a table no one was in at 3am and shattered on the floor. My dog needs a 12 step program for cookies. Well thru flyers, and kindness of people and an ad in the paper I did get my handsome boy back. But the omen I never knew if it was a good one or a bad one. I truly thought he was telling me he was dead, and he was saying he was alive. Visit all shelters, everyone and even go to communities you don't think have them. That's were my dog turned up, and the little city 2 miles next to mine. He was there a whole week. The paper in their infinite wisdom forgot to print my phone number. They remembered everything else. The volunteer went to the park I lost him at and found a flyer. That's how I got him back. Deb

Guest guest
Keep her? Sounds like she chose you. Might take her to a vet and have her scanned and see if they put an identity chip in her. My show dogs are all chipped. Guest guest
Yup. My dogs and cats are all chipped too, especially Squeaker, my regal big black monster who refuses to wear a collar. While we were in the midst of that feline/human struggle, he lost over 12 collars in three months without letting me find ANY of them. I think he had learned how to open a trash can, the little fink! His punishment was being the first cat in my crew to get chipped. I still worry about him a little, but I live on a very quiet street and he does go outside. I got my Australian Shepherds chipped within a week of bringing them home as babies. Z Bellevue, WA (125 cm medial) Http://www.ziobro.us http://www.GreatKibble.com RE: Any ideas?? Guest guest
Carol Put a flyer in the local vet offices, people might be looking there too or have heard about this cat. If no one claims her....I think she is yours...sounds like you have already bonded. I lost a cat about a year ago, put flyers out, etc. Never found him, just hope that he found a good home like yours. Guest guest
Sigh... I don't think this is going to work. I allowed Sasha (my precious and very petite Russian Blue) to run the house with " Panther " cat. Seemed ok at first but Panther cat appears to be religating my Sasha to the bedroom out of dominance. I feel like Benedict Arnold There is no comparison in size. Panther Cat is huge albeit docile and loving. One swipe of her paw, even playing, would throw Sasha to the other side of the room. Sasha is now scared of her and hissing plenty. Any way I can make them get along better? I can't handle doing this to Sasha much longer. Thanks for putting up with this mess with me. Guest guest
We lost our shihtzu once (a beautiful adored baby named Delilah) for maybe an hour, during which time we nearly lost our minds. We were frantic. Fortunatley, we were also VERY lucky and she wasn't far away. Oh I'll never forget how ecstatic she was when she heard us calling for her. I never saw a little dog run so fast! I couldn't get her out of my laps for HOURS afterward. Pets suffer separation anxiety deeply, I think especially dogs, who are pack animals. Guest guest
Oh check this out! I am getting so damn macho, head-wise (well I was ALWAYS a bit overendowed with mental " testosterone! " LOL!) Some weeks back I had this large but not so much heavy as unwieldy package (large box) I needed to mail out, ergo a trip to the local USPS. Now, I have been mailing crap out (packages) for years and years and years, okay?, and always without any assistance from ANYone (except hubs on weekends of course). When sometimes I REALLY REALLY could've use some help! So this day, there I am in all my deceptively fragile (HA!) looking femininity due to being much much slimmer, about to hoist my package onto the USPS counter, when the guy behind me says " Oh miss can I lift that for you? " And I just stopped for a second and almost laughed out loud, but restrained myself and said " Oh that's okay I can manage, but thanks alot! " and lifted it and got my business done. BUT all the time I was thinking to myself, editorializing the situation in my head, where the dialog ran more like this: " Mister, today I can lift YOU, and without a whole lot of trouble! Where the hell were you 2 years ago when I REALLY needed some help! LMAO! " There have been other similar type episodes since I've reached weight goal. It's just fascinating to me. As a now slim woman and not a MO woman, I am no longer " invisible " to the male species. I am no longer ignored or dismissed out of hand. As such, now being a sexually corporeal body to men, I am perceived by them as being " entitled " to a certain kind of attention. I look a certain way (slender), which just spatially suggests a less formidable physical presence than when I was MO, when in truth NOW, I am much physically stronger than I ever was in my life, now at my slimmest. However, I am not being assessed for my strength, but for my sexual desirability, and there are " perks " which seem to tag along with that sexual desirability, " perks " that DO NOT accrue to the MO female. I understand this in a very anthropological way, and it's not a source of deep rancor in my life (I geniunely don't give a flying you know what) BUT I just can't help but wonder if this really nice guy would have offered to help me back when I weighed 350. I'd like to think he would, but I am not so sure. I am just happy as hell that I don't NEED his help! But sometimes, in my impish mischievious Brooklyn-girl way, I wanna turn to the world at large & gesture & say: " lift THIS, buddy!
