Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I tried posting a few days before my surgery on Aug 19 (last Fri) but my post was lost and never appeared. Anyhow, here I am on the flip side of surgery and I wanted to contribute to the very useful conversation going on here by sharing some of my experiences and addressing other questions that have come up on the list. I had upper with split, lower, geniolasty, septoplasty, inferior turbinate reduction and my wisdom teeth pulled. YIKES! The surgery was for functional (not cosmetic) reasons. I came home from the hospital on Sunday and quickly graduated from syringes to cups (what a relief) and from hospital broth/juice to Boost and Ensure. This was SO great because I found the protein drinks easier to swallow and get down than more watery fluids/food. My swelling peaked around 36 hours (typical) and it's slowly coming down. Left side much worse than right; this is typical that sides will be uneven. Some yellow bruising occurring. I am supposed to brush five times a day and I'm taking a liquid antibiotic for a few more days. My teeth ache but pain has not been a huge issue. Bigger deal is just dealing with swelling and also dealing with constant lightheadedness (I bled a lot during surgery and had the two units i donated transfused). My nose leaks a bit (watery fluid). NOt a pretty picture but hey, it's temporary. I have a splint and rubber bands and will see the OS tomorrow for my first check up. Some of the best advice i got here was to have lots of lip balm around! Other great advice I've gotten: keep your attitude positive. Don't try to do too much but do take a walk when you feel up to it. I'm talking a little (it's hard) but my mom understands me pretty well! Sleeping is awful; just can't get comfy. ANy suggestions on that front? Best wishes to all who are healing! Kurdgurl
