I'm still absorbing it! I train my dogs (Whippets) in competitive obedience. I have not trained for over a month because on Nov 3rd I had a big old 9 " incisional hernia repaired along with a Panniculectomy/tummy tuck. Yesterday was my first day back in class. We started with heeling. Our instructor told us to get our dogs in heel position. I gave Karma the command to get in place, and was astounded that I could actually SEE her out of my peripheral vision. There was no belly in the way hiding her head (well.. no boobs either.. ah, well) I used to just have to go on faith that she was where she was supposed to be! It was a bizarre and disorienting feeling.. and I had " a moment " right there in the middle of class. Shopping in regular store. I was shopping in Old Navy recently and tried on a Fleece Pullover in a size XL. It was way too big on me. I went back and was looking to see if they had the size I wanted in a size L. A woman came over and asked about the fleece vest I was wearing (yup.. I'm always cold these days. I LIVE in fleece). Then she asked about the pullovers and if they run small. I said, " I just tried on an XL and it was pretty big on me, so I am going for the Large. She said, " But you are so TINY. Why would you ever try on an XL? " After I picked myself up off of the floor, I explained that two years ago there was 140 pounds more of me! She gave me a huge high 5! Now, I am by no means tiny at 180 pounds.. but I am a heckuva lot tinier than when I was 320 pounds! She made my day. Seeing a woman who had no idea that I had had surgery, about a year after my RNY. She was astounded.. told me how wonderful I look, and said, " I notice your beautiful smile now, before anything " . Cool! One more? the day that the phone was ringing and I ran up the stairs without thinking about it, and then realized that not only was I NOT blue, but I was not at all short of breath ONE MORE! The day that I went to the Dr. and there was a new medical assistant. She went to weigh me, and started at the old pages in my chart, and was about to excuse herself because she thought that she had the wrong chart in her hands. I LOVED THAT! OK.. Done now... Guest guest
Like others here, I'm sure we all have much more than just the top 3, but here are the ones that come to mind first: 1. Pre-op, since you never see yourself as big as you really are, was when the 7-11 clerk asked me when my baby was due. I wasn't pregnant. Also, pre-op, being in a store that seemed to have normal sized aisles yet every time I turned around I knocked something off a shelf. sigh. 2. The first time I could cross my legs comfortably. Felt like such a lady!! The first time I tucked in my shirt and used a belt... 3. Every day when I get on the scale and marvel at how I am maintaining even though I ate that brownie yesterday or those mini- candy bars...never would have happened pre-op.. Guest guest
how very special janice Top 3 Wt Related Moments 1) Walking through Wal-Mart. Found my best friend checking out with her family. Was gonna say HI! Walked up to her and she didn't know me until I spoke. 2) Walking in Dillards. They have mirrored post scattered through the store. Caught my reflection and didn't know who I was. Took me a few seconds to figure it out, LOL! 3) Seeing my only and very special Aunt's face when she first saw me. I lost her about a yr later, so was very glad that she got the chance to see me smaller. Guest guest
I went in for my yearly mammo and the tech guy was comparing the last three years mammos and did'nt think he had the right ones. The new pictures were quite a bit smaller than the ones for the three previous years. A reported from the post star came and interviewed me about a story she was writting about what happens after WLS. She took my " before " pic with her and told me she would send it back with the photographer on Monday when he came to get some " after " pics. When I answered the door the photographer didn't think he had the right house because I looked so good. One of my kids I babysit was going to this preppy nursery school a couple mornings a week. Before WLS the other mothers waiting to pick up their kids would ignor me. This went on for 1 1/2 years. After I lost all of my extra weight they started talking to me as if we were all old friends. If they couldn't talk to me when I was fat then I decided, now I was to good for them. Guest guest
1. At a year postop and 125 pounds (from 260), I went to my oldest brother's retirement party (he's WAYYYY older than me). The last time he had seen me, I was one month postop. I was running late (driving from Indianapolis to Buffalo) and so just went straight to the party. In the receiving line he stuck out his hand and said " I'm ; I haven't met you yet. " HAHAHAHA what a moment. When I started to laugh, he figured it out. 2. The day my son could put his arms all the way around me for the first time. ::::sigh::::. I'll never forget it. (Now he picks me up, throws me over his shoulder and walks around.) 3. The day (about 6 months postop) I was at my wonderful doctor's (pcp) and she said, as she always does, " Any other concerns? " I said " Yeah, I have this growth or something on my hand. " She looked at it and burst out laughing. Yup, you guessed it: wristbone. Never saw it before. Wonderful topic! I have loved reading everyone's. hugs, Ann

Guest guest
1. I went to pick up my son (he was living w/his father to keep attending the same high school), and he didn't recognize me. It was only due to the fact that I was standing next to his father that he knew it was me. =) 2. A short after surgery, I realized that I no longer had the excruciating constant back pain. I could walk more than 10 steps without the horrible pain and without feeling as though I was going to die on the spot. What a blessing. 3. My surgeon asked me to be the covergirl for his new pamphlet (even though I declined due to a 20-lb rebound, it was still a thrill to be considered such a success by my adored surgeon).
