Hi Holly......and welcome. I don't know if this will help or not, but I wanted to tell you that my sister and my 10 year old daughter both experienced these symptoms you are talking about. It was really bizarre....it was exactly liked you described. They had it about two weeks apart from each other. We never did figure out what it was..........we just thought that it must be some kind of weird fluke virus thing. It did go away with both of them!!!!! HTH, P. Guest guest
holly, i think the same might be happening to me-- i have the same urgency to go but no burning and i definitely feel like my bladder is full and heavy but just go a little, some spasms and some soreness-but i also have some leakage. i have not been to my dr,yet. let me know what your results are-- thank god there is a place like this board to answer so many of my questions?!?! holly wrote: I was wondering if anyone has experienced bladder problems as a result of surgery? Not just our normal bladder infections from not enough water but maybe a dropped bladder from carrying the weight.
Guest guest
Well, you didn't say how old you are. But USUALLY we get relief from the urinary issues. I asked my gyn if the cystocele (floor dropping out) had much to do with my obesity and he seemed so surprised and said, no way, it was babies. That made me feel better. I had both done, the floor and bladder neck. One surgery, very lil pain. Kept forgetting I wasn't normal after the first day or so. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Holly, Here's one I can definitely relate to. I have had the problems with my bladder on and off for years. They didn't start until after my WLS. My youngest child was 2 and a half when I had my surgery. I have 3 children and the last two were 10# and 9.12 #. I believed my problems were related to the fact they were so big. The constant need to pee. I have had two bladder infections, two pretty bad kidney infections and I have even asked my gyno if my bladder had dropped. My uterus had before my hysterectomy. My bladder is fine. I truly believe, with our shortened digestive track, liquids go through very quickly. I am a coffee drinker. Don't think I'm gross but the bathroom smells like coffee when I go pee after my morning caffeine. I really think it goes straight through like those baby dolls. This doesn't change the fact that you feel the need to pee often when you are drinking less. At night, I would still wake up 2 or 3 times to go. I have to say what has changed the entire situation for myself. My abdominplasty! Since not having the skin hanging over my bladder, putting pressure, I do not need to go nearly as often. My friends always made a note that I would be in the bathroom every 10 mins. Not any longer. It is much more normal now. As for having bladder or kidney infections, I haven't had any since. I have not had the plastics done very long ago though. One other thing to mention. If I am not drinking enough, it does cause problems. I don't think my bladder likes to be to dry. I get more uncomfortable if I don't drink enough than I do drinking a large amount of fluids. Hope this helps, Dawn
Guest guest
I forgot to mention that one doctor told me that you can actually train your bladder to make you go more often. He said that on average a person should go about every two hours. (I could never wait that long.) My son experienced it when he was little. They put him on a medicine called dythropan (SP) for a short time to get the spasms to stop. Dawn

Guest guest
I get on to my daughter when she tells me that she's held it for hours at school. She is only 13 and has already had 1 bladder infection. Two hours....not any longer. I could hold it much longer when young. Dawn

After my abdominoplasty, I NEVER get up in the middle of the night anymore. I don't know if it has to do with the tighter muscles holding the bladder up, or what, but it's great! I also notice that during the day I don't go as frequently as I used to.
