Guest guest
Doctors who don't answer questions or try to evade our questions tick me off! I just won't tolerate it, especially when we are dealing with a TERMINAL ILLNESS, for crying-out-loud! I believe that a patient is a patient however they got there and doctors need to tells us what we need to know when we ask it and if they don't know then they need to find out for us!!!! My brother was being seen by free public health for a year and all the time diagnosed with asthma and sent out the door with an inhaler until he couldn't breathe anymore and they finally referred him to UWMC. Guest guest
Erna..... the main reason you need a referral to Dr. Raghu is to confirm he is in your network with your insurance....plus the fact that he is so busy. I don't know how he handles so many patients and for me and others on board who have seen him, he is totally patient and answers every question. I like the direct eye contact he has with me...his eyes are kind and I know he is listening. He has a well rehearsed routine because I was never rushed, did not wait too long and it was obvious I was expected and the people I saw were expecting me. I think it was about 3 months before I saw him. Time enough to gather up all your records and results of tests to hand carry with you. Try to get yourself connected up to a good pulmodude/gal close to where you are are because Dr. Raghu will work with your 'local' Dr for any additional testing, etc. he requests. Then you go back again, with the latest test results IN HAND. His office does not want us to 'assume' records have been set ahead, even if we have requested them to be set. has seen him, and right now I can't remember who else...I know BJ is going. If I can be of any help, just post me with my name in the subject line so I don't miss it. There are so many posts now that I do miss some. Have a Merry Merry! Guest guest
, Erna and anyone else waiting/wanting to go to UWMC in Seattle, WA... I hear you loud and clear . I'm with you in wanting our members to get the help they need NOW. However, when I was waiting to see Dr. Raghu and chatting with his nurse assistant (not Carolyn or ), she explained how they keep such order with the huge number of patients coming in. There is a "process" they follow of preferring referrals, confirming w/ referring Dr, and setting appts approx 3 months out at a time. When I first called and tried to get an appt I was told the next 3 month schedule hadn't 'come down yet'. So the call didn't get me anyplace...When my pulmodude made the referral the wheels started grinding. There are so many people who need to see these Drs at these Centers of Excellence and some who are sicker than I but knowing and working within the process ultimately works to our advantage and causes us less confusion, irritation and even waiting. There are 'exceptions to the rules' of course but I do know the first thing that works in "our favor" (whoever) it is, to get that referral in to UWMC. From that point onward, get copies of every test, x-ray, CT scans, labs, on and on and keep them where you know where they are. When you get your call, make a reservation with a Hotel in Seattle (UWMC will send you names of places to stay>>>IF you want to stay over in a Hotel. I'd sure recommend the Quality Inn...great price...$69 if you ask for medical/senior rate. AND they provide shuttle, not all Hotels do. Stick your records under your arm and you're on your way! Now this is a simplified version but maybe a little helpful... Guest guest
Sher, My new doctor did a sonogram and showed me my kidneys. I think it was because I told him no one ever tells me or shows me anything. LOL He also realized that I am always tired. My old doctor in Port Orchard knew that I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue but he retired and the ones since him understand fibromyalgia and pain but they don't seem to realize that chronic fatigue gors with it.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia Idaho From: Verizon Email <bofus6 (AT) verizon (DOT) net>Subject: Re: Re PattiTo: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, December 17, 2009, 1:04 PM We are so lucky to be near a teaching hospital.. Guest guest
BJ... are you satisfied with what you saw? Does it give you an understanding you didn't previously have? I know, that chronic fatigue is tough to deal with. From: Beverley Joy Sent: Saturday, December 19, 2009 5:52 PM To: Breathe-Support Subject: Re: Dr. Raghu Sher, My new doctor did a sonogram and showed me my kidneys. Guest guest
Sher, In this case I didn't learn anything except for looking at my kidneys. I wouldn't have known where they were if he hadn't shown me. At least he knew that I was tired without my having to tell him. When you filled out the medical history sheet for the UWMC did you have to have your doctor sign it? I didn't know it would be so difficult. I had to make a separate sheet for my medications and another for my brothers and sisters and my children. One space for each just isn't enough. I had 5 siblings and 4 children.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia Idaho From: Verizon Email <bofus6 (AT) verizon (DOT) net>Subject: Re: Re PattiTo: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. comDate: Thursday, December 17, 2009, 1:04 PM We are so lucky to be near a teaching hospital.. Guest guest
I also was given a CD of my lung x-ray to take to UCLA, and a copy for me. I had to download a program to view it, but I still couldn't open it. The hosptal gave me another copy that he checked on his computer and it opened, but it also wouldn't open on my computer. UCLA couldn't open it either. He did tell me that their particular program wouldn't open on a MAC. I don't have a MAC, but I still couldn't open it. I ended up taking the film copies.
