Guest guest
It took my son 2 weeks to get used to the helmet. He really enjoyed sleeping on my arm though, so I rolled up a receiving blanket and put it under his head to imitate that position and that seemed to help him a lot. Shane is only 4 months old so I didn't want to put anything too soft under him. You could try sleep in a swing or bouncy seat since those are elevated. I was very worried about him overheating and I was dressing him in lighter clothes, well--he likes to be very toasty, so I put him back in the warmer clothes and I think that helped him too. Someone also suggested having a security blanket that they like to try to take their mind off of it (Shane didn't have one). I tried to give him a pacifier, but he refuses that as well. Hang in there--he will get used to it. And it doesn't hurt them, it's just a little uncomfortable and takes some getting used to! > > Hi, my son just got his helmet a few days ago, and so far he is fine with it whenever sitting upright, but he really hates it when he is laid down in it. Just cries and arches his back. I've not had much luck with napping in it, except for falling a sleep in the car. I have no idea how I am going to get him to sleep in it?? I did try laying a blanket under his body hasn't seemed to help. and I called the orthotist to ask her opinion, she said just give him time to get used to it.... I am hoping he will just get used to it?? any advice?? > Thanks! > > le > mom to 6 mos > WA >
Guest guest
At first we had issues with sleeping too. I have twins, both are in the helmet. We had them sleep in the bouncy chair on days they were really crabby and couldn't fall asleep. The orthotist told us this was fine to do. And now, 8 weeks into treatment, we are having sleep issues again. They are rolling all over the place now, and when they roll to their stomach at night, they don't seem to want to turn their faces to the side, I'm guessing because of the helemet? So we are putting them in bouncy chairs on the nights they are waking up every half hour b/c they rolled and don't know what to do. I'd say in the beginning it took them about a week to get used to it. Good luck! I hope he is feeling more settled in it soon. mom to Caroline & Jack, 7 months > > Hi, my son just got his helmet a few days ago, and so far he is fine with it whenever sitting upright, but he really hates it when he is laid down in it.
