It

is very normal to discover our bodies aren’t coping with foods that we’ve

eaten successfully in the past, either before we started SCD or even

after.

Did

you know that there is usually a symptom flare at 3 months, and again at 6, 9

and 12 months? Or roughly around that time frame. Part of the

healing process. During these symptom flares you’ll find your

digestion suddenly can’t cope well, so you need to go easy for a few

weeks. Most of us fall back to the intro. diet again for a day or two, then

stick to our safest, easiest-to-digest foods for a month or so until we know we’re

out of the flare.

Another

possibility is that you have been accidentally swallowing something that contains

illegals, thus causing some damage and setting you back. I would check

over the foods and supplements you’ve been using and make sure everything

is SCD-legal.

I’ve

also learned that my digestion just doesn’t work the same as it used to,

and it has become a lot more sensitive to the additives and preservatives found

in most commercial foods. So I usually suffer for a few days after eating

out at a restaurant, even though I order fish or steak and cooked veggies

without any sauces or seasonings; additives and preservatives, and probably

some illegals, are probably present, so my body reacts. And because my digestion

just doesn’t work the same even though I’ve healed, it just doesn’t

tolerate as much as before.

I’d

fall back to your safe foods for a week or so, until your symptoms have

disappeared.

Maybe

some one who has a lot of experience with the SCD can explain to me if this is

normal or not. Before I started on the diet, I was able to eat pretty much

everything with out too much or any discomfort aside from D. And that was not

nearly as bad as some people on this site explain they have. Now three months

in to the diet I am so sensitive to everything. Even the yogurt that I had

previously had no issue what so ever with gives me strong stomach pains. Last

night i had crab legs and clams. Really had terrible gut pain. I have been

eating crab legs and clams since I was a teen and now after being on this diet

I can not tolerate them. Is this part of the healing process or because I have

changed my diet from agriculture to hunter gatherer? Is that why we go in

stages, and wait until our bodies can tolerate food we once had no issues with?

I hope some one has some answers. Also what can I take that is legal for my gut

when it acts up so bad. In the old days I would just take Pepto Bismol.

Thanks for all the help. I would have never made this diet work without the

great people on this site.

Now three months in to the diet I am so sensitive to everything. Even the yogurt that I had previously had no issue what so ever with gives me strong stomach pains. This tends to happen to a lot of us for a while once you clear your system out. You become more sensitive, or really, you get in touch with your sensitivities. Then, when more healing takes place, this extreme sensitivitytends to go away for many of us. However, at the moment, Kim seems to have hit the nail on the head with the diagnosis of 3 month flare and extremereactivity you are describing to normally tolerated food. Make yourself some bone broth for a few days and eat onlysoft, easy tolerated food. Original pepto bismal is fine to take (the non flavored liquid). You might get some activated charcoal as well and whenyou are experiencing pain like this, take epsom baths to help. Soak in it for a while - plenty of salt in the bathwater- it really helps relieve the pain. Feel better soon.MaraLast night i had crab legs and clams. Really had terrible gut pain. Thanks for the advice. Guess I will just go a little slower for awhile.
