Guest guest
Hi all- My 6 year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's on 8/12/10. About a week later we started the SCD diet after we did lots of research in how to treat Crohn's naturally. The GI at the time said diet meant nothing and was drug happy, so we changed GI docs. Our current GI uses the SCD diet in conjunction with meds at the start and closely follows how the person is doing and adjusts meds as needed. So far, my son has gained 3 pounds in the short month on the diet and has been more active and his " normal " self. This is after losing 10 pounds in less than 6 months. I wanted to join a group that deals more with the IBD's as the others I am on aren't so much dealing with IBD's, but get lots of good info from them. He is also allergic to casein, beef, buckwheat and soy. He is sensitive to eggs - give him diarhea. We believe he has Celiac and Esophilic Esophagitis even those tests came back negetive. We have been GF, DF, SF, and EF for a long time so this is just another step down the path for us and not that much harder than what we were doing. His older brother and I are also believed to be Celiac.....or at the very least gluten intolerant, of which the " prescription " is the same....avoid gluten. Thanks! He is sensitive to eggs - give him diarhea. Have you tested the egg white and egg yolk separately? Generally, more people react to the egg white, rather than the yolk, which is a source of fantastic, easy to absorb nutrition. Glad to know your son is feeling better so soon - have you also joined pecanbread.com - which is geared to children (though with ASD)? But they have a lot of kid friendly advice. And a lot of them have similar sensitivities to your son. > We believe he has Celiac and Esophilic Esophagitis even those tests came back negetive. Good for the whole family! <g> Mara
Guest guest
* Yes, the egg has been tested in both just white and yolk. * Yes, joined pecanbread. * Eventually getting the entire family SCD. Hardest for daddy to get there, even though it would do him good as well. For the most part we are SCD except letting the others eat up the non-SCD legal stuff. Once that's gone, I am not buying it again. I am almost there as I don't tolerate most of the grains anyways, so I am just helping with the dressings. Guest guest
Welcome, Francine! Glad you found us, though sorry you needed to. Can you tell us what SCD-legal foods you CAN have? That might help in making suggestions. It's great you're already seeing improvement. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
So far we can have the meats (chicken, pork, elk, venison, ostrich, etc). No beef (allergic). Carrots, summer squash, winter squashes, bananas and pineapple. He won't eat applesauce or pearsauce, though before starting the diet, he loved fresh apples. Also, I know it's going out of stage order, but almond flour and honey. I really restrict his consumption of baked goods though. He will only drink water, no juice or milk. Also eggs are a no go as they've always given him diarrhea. He's also allergic to dairy....the casein, not the lactose. I really didn't NEED to find this group as you suggest, just wanted to. The other group is more ASD and I wanted to hear from those with the bowel issues. I am still other group for information and such too.
