Guest guest
Fiona White tea is OK, as is black and green. Elaine approved of mint teas and ginger teas, although some individuals can’t tolerate them (like me, but then my stomach objects to white and green, and most black teas, so I’m not the greatest example here!) The problem with herbal teas is that herbs are, for the most part, polysaccharides, which impacts our digestive tract. Herbs used as seasonings keep the amounts tiny, and usually don’t cause an immediate impact or long-term damage (although some folks have to be careful with spices/seasonings too, like me…) But teas give our digestions a large amount that have to be processed, and since our digestions may not be up to the task, that leads to fermentation and intestinal damage. Which is why Elaine only approved of the few types of tea. I would hold off on a lemonbalm tea until you’ve been symptom-free for a while. And the chamomile as well. Some of us also have to be careful with mint and ginger teas as well, and even green, black and white teas. All depends on your symptoms, and how long you’ve been on SCD. Vanilla in your tea is fine, if your digestion will tolerate it, and the vanilla doesn’t contain added sugar (check the bottle labels carefully). While you’re dealing with digestive symptoms, you need to be cautious with teas just as you are with foods. Kim M. It's so healing on the CNS and gut lining... is it not? I don't have loose stools... so is it ok for me to consume before bed? What about licorice tea? I am having green tea every morning for morning tea, and sometimes I mix it with white tea; is white tea legal? Not black tea with milk, but actual white tea leaves. Higher in antioxidants than green tea, and less caffeine. Can I put vanilla extract (organic) in my teas? Can I drink an infusion of peppermint, spearmint and lemonbalm tea?? Thank you, Fiona
