Guest guest
Well, that's here, too. No candles or bottled water, either. Weird, I keep all that stuff on hand all the time. Guest guest
Dear Graduates, Private replies are not only allowed, but encouraged. Information or a message that will specifically *benefit* one list member, but does not need to be broadcast to all 3000 is actually encouraged to help keep list volume down. However, here's the rub: All of our email addresses are public and anyone can write to us. If we don't like them writing to us, we can use our mail client to " block " that sender. (Like learning to roll up the windows if you drive on the highway....this is the " information " superhighway, right?) Also, without being engaged as parents, moderators would like to hear " privately " if someone is sending really offensive, obscene or dangerous material to a list member. They'll get kicked off the list, but they'll still have your email and you'll have to learn to block them yourself. in Austin List Moderator RNY April 1998 315/190s email replies Hey Gang, GEE, I didn't know you weren't supposed to reply privately. Guest guest
, thanks for the clarification. Some lists, such as OSSG-Protein, are set up to respond specifically to the individual; on others, responses go to the whole list -- depends on the setup. I send private e-mails often, for example, to newbies when what I want to say is old hat to most, or to someone with whom I wish to share a particularly personal experience. It's one of the ways we make close friends. I also send private e-mails when what I want to say might embarrass or raise a sensitive issue. Also, sometimes when we use a 'tough-love' approach with someone, it's best not to subject the whole list to that. I receive and send many personal messages among my listmates, and I have always observed it to be common practice and good etiquette that those personal exchanges remain personal. I'll keep on doing that! Cheers! Sharon in D.C. email replies Hey Gang, GEE, I didn't know you weren't supposed to reply privately. Guest guest
Sherry, I have to admit THAT is a NEW rule to me too. Is this TRUE? Will our moderator God and Goddesses please let us know? I know I have also posted privately to something that I didn't feel warranted taking up space on the list. It isn't FAIR playing with my mind when I have so little to play with.
