Guest guest
Mike - Congratulations on starting the process. The timespan between getting the xrays and molds done to my Ortho consult to discuss the treatment plan was 3 weeks for me. My Surgery consult with my OMS was two weeks after the Ortho consult. My brackets were put on three weeks after my OMS consult, and the rest of the braces hardware went on two weeks later. The OMS consultation was actually two appointments; the first is to tell you what the treatment plan is for your particular case and the description of the surgery procedures to be done. The second appointment, for me, was a question-and-answer session, and a discussion about the surgery. My second appointment was one week after the brackets were installed. I would strongly suggest that you make an appointment with the Surgeon as soon as you can but make sure it is after the Ortho consult. Appointments for Surgery consults sometimes have one or two months' wait to them. ~~~~ Diane (Idaho) > I went to the orthodontist yesterday for a diagnostic. Guest guest
Hi Miikey723, I think it depends on your OD and OS policies. My course sounds similar to yours. I first found out about needing the surgery in May, went to three OD consults, and had made my selection bu June. Went to my OD consult and got approved by insurance in about three weeks, then set an appointment for OD again. He took new molds that were more specific based on what the consult with the OS/OS/Dentist determined, and my braces were put on the first of September. For me the process did NOT move quickly. I was like you, I was hoping to have my braces on soon after I was approved and had decided on an OD. But perhaps due to the complexity of my problem and the way the process moves in the OD and OS offices, that did not happen. Perhaps others could say how long their process took, and that would give you a more rounded idea. Good luck! I hope yours goes more quickly than mine did. Guest guest
Mike, After meeting with my ortho, I met with the surgeon and had him submit the paperwork for approval of surgery to my insurance company. I was denied, switched jobs, and had it resubmitted. It went through that time, but it took a few months to get the approval. I waited to get braces until I had the surgery approved, so it ended up being quite a bit of time before I could go ahead with the braces. Then once I had the braces on for a year, my insurance cancelled my approval, I switched jobs again and got it reapproved. So everything was set but now it looks like my surgery will be a year later than expected, in the spring. It's taken me 3.5 years to get this far. So my experience has been that everything takes freakin' forever. I feel like my life's been put on hold for all this time. I wish I'd never decided to do this, am just trying to be patient until I finally get the surgery and am keeping my fingers crossed that the braces will come off soon thereafter.
