Guest guest
Over the last year my total carbon dioxide has been on the rise with the latest reading (about a month ago) coming in at 43 (which for a normal person w/o pulmonary issues is a critically high value. When I discussed this with my pulmonologist he was puzzled as to why it was so high. He said it is obvious my body is not ridding itself of the excess CO2 that builds up in the gas exchange in the lungs. He did a blood gas and found the bicarb was 47 which indicated the kidneys were not doing very well at compensating for the respiratory acidosis. I will be seeing him later this week as he runs more blood work. My question to you on the forum is whether any of you have experienced this problem and how it was treated?
