Guest guest
It depends on the individual. I know some people have lost weight on Prozac. I, on the other hand, gained almost 100 lbs on it. No two people react exactly the same to any medication. Guest guest
I took the cousin to Prozac--Zoloft back in the 90's for depression and I am certain it contributed to my steady weight gain until a year or so before my surgery in '99. I certainly don't blame it totally on my weight problems because I was already overweight from 2 babies I never lost weight after having. But, I felt certain it didn't help me in that area. I went to a new Psychiatrist and switched to Wellbutrin and have been taking that since. I would speak seriously w/ the doc. before trying it. Thanks, Diane LAP RNY 9/99 > I was reading some book by Dr. Atkins and it mentioned that certain > medications could keep you from losing weight. One of the medications > mentioned was Prozac. Guest guest
I have been on Wellbutrin for several years and don't have any problems with it and weight. In fact I have been loosing. I also take Clonazapan(sp?) for anxiety and don't have a problem with that either. Do we gain weight from the medication or did the pounds come on because we were depressed? God only knows... But there are other antidepressant medications out there which don't seem to impact upon our appetites. (Wellbutrin?) Others on the GRAD list who are currently on these newer drugs would be able to relate their own experiences to you. Once my weight hit the high, it was tough to diet down to my old setpoint levels. That rocky road is what eventually let me to WLS as an alternative. Prozac takes several weeks before maximum effect is attained. Zoloft and Paxil are faster acting (Paxil was not effective for me, and both made me hungrier.) There are so many new neat SRIs out there now, so don't permit your doctor to be lazy about this. You've got to get what works best for you, sometimes despite your doctor's advice. Keltie
Guest guest
From what I have heard from friends who are taking Wellbutrin, they do well on it... especially in the sexual area. Prozac really kills the mood... your sex drive is reduced to practically nil. For anxiety, I had been prescribed Klonopin. Is this what you are taking, Debbie? Guest guest
I've been on klonopin (clonazepam) for years, since before WLS and it has had no effect on weight for me at all. I'm in the process of tapering off of them, finally, at the rate of 1/2 a pill every 3 months. It's amazing how badly I needed them when I started them, panic attacks, and also how addictive they are. in Austin RNY April 1998 315/190s RE: Prozac question From what I have heard from friends who are taking Wellbutrin, they do well on it... especially in the sexual area. Guest guest
Might be a different name for the same thing. I usually end up with generic of everything.
