thats all good advice from . and definatley make sure its a heat rash, you should still be able to wear the helmet if its a heat rash. I actually just recently dealt with heat rash for my son and I can tell you what worked for us. I took the helmet off every few hours and cleaned the helmet with alcohol and washed his head with mild shampoo. (he has very short fine hair so this was easy to do) dress as cool as comfortably possible. I don't put socks on him and definatley not shoes. Its cold here so when we go out I put a blanket over him in the car. I supose people think I am nuts having no socks on him but I don't care as he is fine now with no heat rash, and I always check his feet , hands etc to make sure he is not "cold". at night hes wearing only a diaper and a sleep

sack. Our ortho reccomended to continue to wear the helmet even with the rash, and it did go away once I took these additional steps. He had the kind of heat rash that makes bumps all over, they are sweat glands that are blocked, because he was just too hot. most of the heat wants to escape from the head, so they cannot be kept too warm. He will likely continue to sweat, my son still does but no rash, its the overheating that causes the rash

The body has to get used to the warmer temp, and I think the main thing that helps in dressing much cooler than you think.

good luck!

Hi ,dress him very lightly. Also take the band off every hour or so and wipe it down with a dry cloth and dry his head too. Keep a fan on too if you can (but make sure his body isn't getting chilly). Don't let the sweat build up too much. We used a little hydrocortizone on the heat rash - but my daughter only had a few patches near her side burns. If you try it let it dry before putting the band back on. I can't think of anything else to try. Are you sure it is heat rash? Some kids have more of an allergy to the band. Doc band seems to have this problem less. If the rash is all over, and does get better when you dry the band off etc it may be an allergy. Also be sure you use mild shampoo, clean the band well with alcohol (nothing else) and let it dry before putting it on. Some people clean the band with shampoo etc, but most orthos don't recommend this, and since you're having troubles I would say you should use only alcohol. If it dries

completely it doesn't leave any residue (which shampoos etc. can).-christinesydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad>> I posted a couple of weeks ago about my frustration with my son's> helmets.
