Guest guest
I am definitely vain, or I feel like I am. I have to check myself out in almost every mirror I pass. I also always turn sideways to admire my flat stomach. I don't know if that's really vanity or not, but whatever. I had enough years of avoiding mirrors and feeling like I looked like shit that I think maybe they cancel out. Guest guest
Ya know, I think that the farther out I get, the less I do this. I got to my current weight about 2 yrs ago and did the window/mirror " check out " for over a year, give or take a month. Now I don't do it so often. Maybe I am finally beginning to adjust? Guest guest
I wouldn't say vain, but when all dressed up, I do admire what I see in the mirror! And I pout if hubby does not " say " something nice! After all those years of avoiding the mirror and vainly searching for an outfit that makes me look less fat, its now a pleasure to wear fitted clothes and admire me in them...now without clothes, another story!! Guest guest
My opinion is wear what makes you feel good. Bell bottoms, mini skirts, granny sweaters. If it makes you feel good, go for it. The only person I listen to about what looks good on me is my hubby. And he'll tell me I look best in nothing. LOL. I'll be 48 next month. My mother just turned 66 last October, and I'd raid her closet any day. Except she is 5'6, and wears a size 2. Darn. Guest guest
Hi Reba, Although I haven't bought anything terribly young for me (except maybe my denim jacket) I walk through the mall drooling at the following stores - Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, New York Incorporated...all full of belly shirts, red leather halter tops and hip huggers. As I have discovered butt be back BIG TIME I cannot wear any low cut pants - they don't go over my butt. I am not dressing old either - I am 40. I find I do best at the department stores (Macy's, Strawbridges - clearance rack only) and perhaps TJ's and Marshalls... However a girl can dream... Guest guest
Dear Reba, Back in the day (around 1968-69), I was way too fat for girl's bellbottoms. My mom worked for the Navy, so I was able to get men's low rise bell bottoms (size 42 waist) to fit. They had these ENORMOUS bells on them and I loved 'em and wore 'em to death. The best part was they only cost $5 a piece at the PX back then. I was 14 or 15 at the time. Now, I'm 2 months shy of 50 and, for the first time in almost 35 years, wearing bell bottoms again. They are my jeans of choice. Always have been. It may, or may not, look age appropriate, but I don't feel my age, and I know I don't look my age. As for dressing how you would think I should dress at my age, well, hell, I did that for the past 35 in-between years. I'm reclaiming my lost clothing youth in this new millennium and enjoying every moment of it. I'm glad to see you're doing the same... And Fay, I LOVE your attitude. live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt... Guest guest
Do ya' remember the old Ditto jeans? Well, I was way too fat to ever even consider wearing 'em when they were first out many, many years ago. Found a pair of Tommy Hilfiger pants on the clearance rack at Macy's that were made just like the old Ditto's- I bought 'em! And not only that but they were a light beige to boot! I proudly wear those darn size 10 pants now. Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 Along this same line of thought, has anyone else noticed that they are wearing clothes that are a little " young " for them? Guest guest
I wear whatever I think looks good on me and makes me feel good. It also has to be comfortable. Now that I can wear a much smaller size, I have more choices than I used to and I can wait for exactly the right outfit. I have to be totally crazy about it before I buy it. I do most of my shopping at second hand-stores. I prefer this, as I have more style choices. Some seasons, most of the new clothes are in colors that I cannot wear. At second hand stores, there is always a color just right for me, if I look long and hard enough. Of course I also enjoy the hunt. And, it could be that the college students are looking at you because they admire you style. I think we are in a very good time now fashion-wise, in that we can wear anything we want. You can pick your own style. Barbara Jean Re: another janice ponder > On the way to the shower, dh & I stopped to grab a bite to eat. Guest guest
The whole age thing is weird. When I look at fat pictures of me, I looked much older than I was----when I lost my weight, so many people said to me that I looked 10-15 years younger---I'm only 37. When I was fat, I had a hard time finding cute, fashionable and affordable clothes that reflected my " age " . Now, I'm buying stuff in the Junior's section and my 15 year old daughter is actually borrowing my clothes! When I'm looking around in the juniors section, there are some things that I won't wear simply because they do look too young for me (meant to be worn on a young hard-body, not a soft and squishy, had 5 kids and lost tons of weight body, LOL) but for the most part I go by the " If I like it, I'm gonna wear it " rule. I don't think age should have anything to do with it---just whether YOU like it or not and as long as it looks good on you. -) RE: Another Janice ponder > Dear Reba, > > Back in the day (around 1968-69), I was way too fat for girl's > bellbottoms.
