Guest guest
I just read the label on Chromgen Forte, and it is in soybean oil. Does anyone know anything about this? Guest guest
- I have severe osteoporosis. I could not take the Miacalcin but have been taking Evista for maybe 6-8 months without problems. The rheumatologist (who I absolutely HATE) has given me an rx for Forteo which is a daily injectible parathyroid which studies show return you to a normal bone density in 18-24 months. I have not filled the rx as yet as I am uncomfortable with the black box warning and I am trying to work through that in my mind. Amber/FLRN One more time - Ferritin & Osteopenia OK, O wise ones! Latest labs & dexa: the last 3 years Ferritin was 31/18/14 (range 10-232). Yes, I see the writing on the wall. I've been taking Niferex, and after doubling up this past year, it's still on that slippery slope. So, back to PCP I go, and ask to try Chromagen Forte. Now, that iron list that someone posted shows 3 different Chromagen products. It is the Forte, right? Also, I don't see that it has intrinsic factor, anyone know if it does? (Posting site again as I'm sure some haven't seen it): http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/tables/iro n.shtm l Also, 2nd dexa still shows osteopenia. Just an FYI, my sister (always thin, not a WLS patient) is 1 year older than me, and has opsteporosis. So, although I didn't have a baseline pre-WLS, it may be genetic and not related to the WLS...we'll never know. So, have to go see my gyno for meds. Now, I know Fosomax is a pouch burner, but what about the others? I think the consensus was Myacalcin, although I believe some have had a bad reaction. So, what can we try and what can't we? Guest guest
I had Actonel samples sitting here for 2 yrs. Finally, my endo said that it isn't the pouch that is in danger, but the esophagus AND I'd know immediately, unlike some drugs which eat you slowly. Based on that, I started fresh ones (1/wk) 1/1/04. Actonel 35mg. So far, it feels the same as nothing. I also use Miacalcin. I tried it before but the head aches and stiff neck drove me away. This time I've made it since about Nov 1. But the h/a and stiff neck are making me crazy, along with unspecified vertigo which causes nausea. How on earth could Miacalcin cause me to lose wt? But there you have the progression, I think. The impression I got is that if I can put some bone mass back on, there is a chance I won't re-lose it, even going off the actonel. That was what made me try it. Maybe I didn't get it right. Guest guest
Maybe that's why they didn't work for us? But then, why would they work for ANY of us? All I know is that 260 measly mg of carbonyl iron is what put our ferritin thru the roof and we've been iron-free for 4 yrs. I am still ,with ferritin still at 317, serum iron at 117. Don is now completely normal, so we kicked in the carbonyl again to HOLD him there. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Well, the B-12 heald steady from last year at 580, and I take extra C with it. So, I'm thinking to make sure it has IF, too? Now, I'll have to talk my PCP into changing iron. He'll usually do it on my 2nd request, and I mentioned the drop when I got my scrip and found out he was missing the past lab pages with Ferritin on them (very strange). So, I faxed them to him, and now I have to talk him into testing the ferritin again at 3 or 6 months ( I do once a year labs). in NJ ************************* > > It only comes 1 way. 150mg elemental iron with some C, some IF, some B12, some folic acid. > > > Thanks, > > > Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Miacalcin is the nasal spray. I'll ask about Evista vs Actonel. Actonel is sposta be easier on the gut. I swallow it (very tiny) and then take my shower, and usually I can remain fairly upright for that. I can't glug 8 oz of water, but do 4 + 4 while the shower gets hot. So far, so good. Guest guest
I personally don't think we should EVER go more than 6 months w/o labs. We're just fragile enough with iron and CA and potassium to need to be tweaked. I just got labs after 6 months and they're ok, but still need a lil tweaking. What is nice is that all the calcium indicators are holding steady. So apparently the muscles, organs and blood are now happy. Now, to make happy BONES! Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
By the same token, although I don't know which one is worse, one consideration is that the osteoporosis is a confirmed diagnosis, whereas the side effects of the Forteo are only a warning, although very serious. Amber, is there any way of calling the manufacturer to find out what the true stats are.
