Guest guest
ann, I can only say again what I related in an earlier post on this thread. It has been taught to me in both rehabs that I attended that shortness of breath with normal sats and in the absence of pulmonary hypertension can sometimes be explained by the fact that our lungs are stiff and difficult to expand. We have to work harder to get our lungs to do what should come naturally and almost effortlessly. Our brains interpret this extra work as shortness of breath. We pant, we breathe harder because we're having to work harder to get air in and in the case of bronchiectasis get air out also. Consequently we feel short of breath. PLEASE remember I'm only sharing what I've been taught. It may or may not apply to anothers individual situation. Everyone should discuss their own symptoms with their doctor. The reality is however when you have interstitial lung disease shortness of breath or dyspnea is just part of the package. It may not always be explainable or understandable. Sometimes it's just one of those things that we all have to learn to deal with. Is it bronchial spasms, vasoconstriction or what? I always felt that my irritated bronchi responded by shutting down in some way and not allowing me to get air in. I just got my oxygen meter this week so will be checking it now. Maybe I'm confusing bronchiectisis with PF. They are opposites in air flow. Do others have both problems?Slapping shut does not speak to the issue of SOB. That should be attributable to a physiological change in those instances. Lungs have nothing in them to close except alveoli or vessels.
