Oh my gosh! I hadn't heard from her in weeks but hoped she was off just enjoying the last bit of summer. How awful :(She has helped so many people. Please everyone consider helping her! I can't even imagine going through something like that :(

Hey all,

I haven't been around much lately because I've been helping my mum beat her cancer diagnosis. So I don't know if anyone has posted about this but an SCD friend from another site said that she hadn't heard from Misty lately and so checked her site and found this:

http://www.miztydawn.com/

She posts on this site and on others. She helps other people who are struggling through SCD and has such a positive attitude even when she's not feeling well. She's always there with food suggestions or words of comfort. I've not had the pleasure of meeting her in person but she is a wonderful online friend. Please, please, please help her out because she would do the same for anyone here!

Thanks for letting us know. She has been a wonderful presence on this board.

Thank you for the link. If all of us sent even just a few dollars it would make

a big difference since there are so many of us on this board.

Just a word of caution. Please thoroughly check the source of such information

for authenticity when it comes to donations asked for. There have been numerous

instances in the past year of email addresses being hijacked and posts of

desperation sent out for help, only to show up as hoaxes.

I did go to the web site listed below and decided to click on 'web site contact'

for those who wish to help - it basically went to the login window for gmail

addresses where I needed to login with a possibly existing gmail address if I

have one.

Not sure what is going on.

Suneeti, the web site contact is an actual email address of the person who set up the site and donation link for her. It is a friend of hers. It brings you to a gmail login window because it's a standard website " mailto " link. If you have Outlook open, it will pop up an outlook email form, if you have gmail, it will pop up that. The email address for that web site contact is tplanchard@... in case the link is not working for you.

I highly doubt this is a hoax, as I had been talking with Misty often this summer and August 27th is the last I can find of her commenting or posting anywhere. The pictures and notices/comments from friends in real life are also real. If Misty were ok, she would have said something about that website which has been up for a few weeks now.

That said, yes I have seen hoaxes before which is frustrating and sad.I hope the latest update is accurate and she is improving!Kathttp://scdkat.com

Yeah, but that appears to be different. That's usually a hijacking of the email

address book to ask

for help. That's not what appears to have happened here - that happened to two

people I know and

I've gotten those " email requests " for help. But they come to private

addresses, not a group address

like this with a corresponding website announcing health bulletins. And in

fact, she has not been

around lately.

I'm shocked, too, Jodi.

It doesn't seem like a hoax at all, but to be 1000% sure, someone

could email the website contact ( tplanchard@... ) and ask

to know the name of the hospital she is in and then call the hospital

to confirm she is there.

I've never seen her before. Her pictures are so sweet looking.

Mara,

I feel awkward posting to be honest- I feel in my heart she is just like a real

life friend. She is actually.

I was supposed to be in New Orleans earlier this year and we were going to meet

up- so I should have her cellphone number somewhere..

Anyone talk with her regularly??

Okay - I'm doing it. I'll post the results when I get it.

This is helpful anyway, so we can send her cards or other

things, or if anyone lives in the area and wants to see her

to take her food, it will be useful info.

It's not a hoax. She really is very injured and this is really an account to

help with the future medical expenses. Her family and friends have been

visiting her in the hospital and posting about her progress. They're the ones

who set up the site.

Hi. I just called the Hancock Bank in LA and it's legit. You can call 1-800-

256-4636 and tell them you'd like to donate to the "Benefit for Misty Kimble" fund. Don't just say Misty Kimble because they can't find it.Such a terrible thing. My heart is aching for her and her daughter.

Thank you Stacey for replying.I got a response from the contact on the web page and it is her former employer and good friend who is in charge of it. I will be helping to set up a fundraising group on Facebook for ongoing fundraising activities and donations. In the meantime, please use the donation button on the site http://www.miztydawn.com/

The site has also been updated today with a progress report on her condition, click your browser refresh button if you don't see the latest information. For those not comfortable donating online, there is a donation account setup at Hancock Bank under the name " Benefit for Misty Kimble " .

Let's hope she sees a lot more progress in the coming days!

Misty and her family have my prayers for healing in all ways.

Traumatic Brain Injury instantly robs you of your life as you knew

it and the essence of who you are---to say it is devastating is a vast

understatement.

That being said, Misty is young, and brain injury rehabilitation

has continued to improve and that means even better outcomes. I have

great hope for her and anyone who sustains an injury now. It's

wonderful she is in a specialized TBI rehab center. When I was in rehab

there was a teenager who had an accident that sounds like Misty's and

she recovered, through years of intensive work, and was able to go to

college just as she had planned.

But, recovery will happen over years, and like with many of us

here, it will often be so incremental, and mixed in with 2 steps back,

that it's hard to tell when you are close to the situation.

I say all this to let those of you know you would like to support

her that she will need help in all kinds of ways, including financial,

for years to come.

It just occurred to me---does anyone here know if her family is

supportive and will help her to get SCD healthy nutritional support ?

If she's a month out from the accident and still has a trach--then she's

got a feeding tube and you know she's getting either a milk, soy or corn

based type liquid food.

It's just so heartbreaking. Hug your kids and have them wear

helmets when biking, skating, skateboarding, sledding.

This is a club that never wants any new members.

My heart goes out to Misty and her family- I can't imagine how difficult it must

be for them.

I don't think there is a single person in this group who hasn't had to overcome

constant struggle and hardship. But it sure does reinforce how precious and

quick life is. We need to embrace each day and live life to its fullest.

Thank you for your perspective Sue, I think all of us are having a hard time even beginning to understand what she is going through and what her future holds. I hope she continues to see progress every day.

I will try to find out if anyone near her is being an advocate for her nutritional needs. Obviously we can all relate that this would be important to her. If I were in the hospital, I would want everyone to be harassing my doctors to ensure I was getting proper food!

It looks legit, but I know what I would prefer would be if someone can

get an actual address for that bank or something where I can just send a

check, not use a credit card number. I know they mentioned a bank but the

name of a bank, who knows where, didn't exactly give me any

information! Please post it if you find out more.

I'm contacting the email address on that website and will post here

when I

hear back. Will also let people know if there is a fundraising

Thanks,
