Hi Sheryl,

We've just gone through this with my youngest g-son, Austin. it was found

that Austin is allergic to both cow's milk and soy. The Dr currently has him

on NeoCate Jr. (this is an elemental formula that does not contain either

milk, milk-by-products or soy) but his parents are having a really hard time

with it. They said that it tastes very bitter. The Dr had them add as much

as a Tbsp of sugar to 6 oz of formula. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would

ask to try a different brand of elemental formula.

There are other elemental formulas that could be used, such as EleCare (this

is what uses) or PeptaMin Jr. (which I've heard tastes better than

NeoCate). But it is my understanding that all of these need a prescription

to be covered my WIC or Medicaid.

You could also try either Soy milk, or Rice Dream. Neither of these contain

any milk or milk-by-products.
