Guest guest
I have a 15 year old daughter that has been on the diet for 2 years. She got diagnosed with celiac 4 years ago as did my hubby. The gluten free diet wasn't enough for her. I think she gained weight because of the sugars and preservatives in gf foods. She ended up with extreme anxiety 2 years ago and a nutritionist found an overgrowth of bacteria in her gut and put her on this diet. I do make her cookies, cakes, etc. from nuts. and she's ok on it. But we are 2 years into it, don't forget. I do think this is a healthy diet. Let's just say that she missed 3 months of school in 8th grade due to anxiety. Got on this diet on Oct 1 and was back to school by Dec. 1 of that year. Was it the diet that helped the anxiety? I'm not sure. But something helped. The only negative is that we re-did the stomach test this summer and her bacteria level is the same as it was 2 years ago. That was very discouraging. But someone on this blog said that numbers are not the only thing to look at - you need to look at how the person feels, etc. so, that is my take on this. I think the gf diet alone works for many. But for many, they still have problems. I do recommend seeing a nutritionist that can help you with supplements too. That has helped us. Let me know if that answered your questions at all. and if you have any more. We're in the middle of a crisis right now with my daughter. She is a sophomore and has not been to school this year yet. We got her off of her lexapro for anxiety and all havoc broke loose. She's had dizziness/light headedness since April, we've seen 4 neurologists, she has now been diagnosed with migraine assoc vertigo because of getting off the lexapro. So, we're very stressed out over on my end. She's on a beta blocker and nothing is helping. We just went to a new chiro today to see if he can help
Guest guest
Hi, . I was diagnosed with Celiac in April. I tolerate most cooked vegetables and cooked apples, meats (except fish), nut butter, nut flour baked goods. I can even eat a handful of whole nuts for a snack just fine. I do recommend adding one food at a time and waiting several days, only because I have learned through doing this that there are foods I had thought I was tolerating previously that actually do not work well for me. Having said that, I think all of our bodies are very different, so mostly a process of learning about your own body (or your child's) and figuring out what works for that particular body. Over and over I have seen people recommend to go slow and be patient, and I am finding this to be excellent advice. Best wishes,KelleyCeliac 4/10SCD 510 I was wondering if those of you with celiac disease would comment on how the SCD has worked for you. Were you able to move through the stages faster than those with IBS/CD/UC? Are there particular foods that seemed worse than others? Were you able to tolerate nuts (in particular) well? Thank you, mother of 14 yrold with Celiac disease who has been on the diet for just over a week -- Kelley

Well, I don't know that I have celiac, although it's likely, since my niece does. I know that I was able to move along to where I could eat a fair number of foods relatively quickly (once I got past my first few months of beef roast, zucchini, pork roast, zucchini, soft boiled eggs, zucchini, and more zucchini. I did well with nut flours, but it took me awhile to handle whole nuts. It's all individual, which is what drives people wanting a time table crazy. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Well it worked great for me! I found I had to follow my own stages especially with vegetables. I tolerated some raw fruit before tolerating well-cooked spinach for example. I don't tolerate nuts well although for a while I liked to believe I did I found with Celiac maybe the biggest difference in the healing stages is that it was mostly an upward healing trend and not so much having 'flare-ups' every few months. I didn't have any significant period of regression or return of symptoms. Also not being on heavy medications as some with IBD are can make for a more steady progression of healing. Having to taper or change medications can be difficult to do while introducing new foods. Kathttp://scdkat.com

AlsoHi KatI am interested in whether I am Celiac (undiagnosed). I have a cousin who was diagnosed Celiac in the late 1950's as his father was a doctor and was aware of such things even back then. That's just background to why I am asking :-) Did you have any 3 month flare? Any unusual symptoms around that time at all?TIAAnne-MarieCanberra, AustraliaIBS 2007SCD 15 weeks

I have a friend w/ anxiety disorder and I've been trying to get her to do SCD. Artful Carol
