Guest guest
Hello Missy_sh_b, I am now five months post-op and I finally have nice smile. I had my braces put on June 2004 I was told that I would have to have my braces on for 18-20 months before I would have teh surgery, but 8 months into orthodontist treatment I was ready for surgery and had my surgery May. it was a nice surprise being told so soon that I was ready for surgery. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Missy - Welcome to this group - you are not alone! I have an underbite and will be having my surgery in June, or if my teeth continue to move as they have, earlier than June. Hey, maybe we will be surgery-buddies! I've had my braces on for nine weeks - got them installed on Aug. 9th. I agree with you about the pain associated with braces; do you have continuous force wires too? I will be having a BSSO (Bilateral Sagittal Split (Ramus) Osteotomy) to set back my mandible and a LeFort 1-piece (Maxillary Osteotomy) to advance my maxilla; are these the procedures you are having done? In your post, you didn't say what your problem is: openbite, underbite, crossbite, overbite...? My OD (Orthodontist) is very pleased with my progress, and I go back to my OMS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon) in December so that he can see the progress my teeth have made. I hope he will be telling me some good news: that I am ahead of schedule and he will be doing the surgery earlier than planned. And, yes, eating is becoming harder - my teeth are sore most of the time. Well, keep in touch and let me know how it's going with you. Take care. And, again, welcome aboard! ~~~ Diane (Idaho) :-)#) //-- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " missy_sh_b " <missy_sh_b@y...> wrote: > > Hello! > > I just found this group yesterday and thinks it's great that we can > share our experiences like this. Guest guest
Hi Missy _sh_, You know, I feel the exact same way! Just knowing there are others out there who are going through very similar situations as I am makes me feel less alone in this. My family and friends are supportive to a point, but they really don't understand what this is really like. Having others to support us through this is a huge relief. And as we learn more about the treatment and surgeries we are dealing with, we can help those who are just starting the process. And that feels good also! I think you will really like this board. It is full of supportive and informed people at all stages of the process. Welcome to the board! Guest guest
Hi Diane, Thank for your message, it was really lovely and would definitely like to be surgery buddies! As far as my exact treatment , you'll have to forgive me for sounding a bit dumb, but I live in England and here they don't seem to tell you all the complicated surgery words for what you're having done! Basically, my bottom jaw and teeth come out further than my top teeth, so I having surgery on top and bottom jaws to put my bottom jaw back and a genioplasty so that my chin doesn't stick out too much after the jaw has been put back. Is this what you're having? lol... Congratulations on your quick progress too! Hope to hear from you soon. Guest guest
Hello Missy (AKA my Surgery-Buddy) - I'm having upper and lower too, to set back my lower jaw and bring the upper forward. It sounds like we both have the same problem, with our lower being too long. What are they going to do to your upper - bring it forward? My upper apparently didn't grow out in front as it should have; my Surgeon hasn't decided if he will definitely be doing the upper procedure, although I want to have it done. If he only does the lower, my tongue will be too long for my mouth, as he will be shortening my lower by about 7mm. I don't want to go thru all this " fun " if I will be getting a new problem. There is a procedure to surgically shorten the tongue, but I think it would be far easier to have the upper surgery instead. I'm tired of having an underbite and all the problems that go along with it, and I want to have a smile that I can be proud of and to show. I hate smiling and being in pictures. I posted the pre- braces pictures my Orthodontist gave me - my hideous pictures are in the 2nd Diane folder in the Photos section. My Surgeon gave me a copy of my before-and-after pictures (lower surgery only) but I haven't scanned the pictures onto a floppy to be uploaded yet; when I do, I'll let you know. The change between the two pictures is really amazing. My Surgeon is also planning on doing some neck and chin Lipo on me, so I'll be having three procedures that day; he's a Cosmetic Surgeon too. Well, that's it for now. Take care. ~~ Diane (Idaho)--- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " missy_sh_b " <missy_sh_b@y...> wrote: > > Hi Diane, > > Thank for your message, it was really lovely and would definitely > like to be surgery buddies!
