Guest guest
Hi, My experience is, that if you feel that you want to go trough an operation you should. But you have to do it for yourself and not for anyone else... I haven't gone trough what you are describing, but I know the feelings concerned operations... Do it for yourself, then I'm sure you'll be happy afterwards! Take care, guy_cd <no_reply > wrote: i m 35 yr old male and have my lower jaw forward ,and hence my smile is just not good and i never smile when i need to take a photo or i generally avoid it .My teeth dont match each other ,though i still havn't had any dental problems .i m thinkng of doing a surgery to correct the same. is it advisable ,since it will correct my jaw and my face sructure and the most it will give me self confidence to approach and speak . if someone has done the same ,kindly let me know te healing time and what r the complications which may arise.i have already consulted a surgeon and thinking of doing it.Thogh some people r advising me to go against it ,but personaaly i feel it will boost me in life. i had gone trhu various forums and sites and they say lower jaw surgery is not much a bother as compared to upper jaw surgery, but htere might be some numbness for some time . Guest guest
guy_cd - Well, it sounds like you have the same exact condition that I have. Welcome to this group - you are not alone! I'm 47, and have an underbite too. I have been in braces for nearly eleven weeks, and will be having my surgery in June. I will be having my lower set back and my upper brought forward. I need this surgery because I have been having problems with chewing food, and my jaw hurts and gives me headaches. I don't like to get my picture taken either, but my Orthodontist took some of me anyway as part of the work-up for getting the braces. You can see those horrible pictures of me in the Photos section - I'm the 2nd " Diane " folder. I know this surgery will improve my appearance, and then I will enjoy getting my picture taken. Again, welcome to the group! Have a nice weekend! ~~~ Diane (Idaho) > > i m 35 yr old male and have my lower jaw forward ,and hence my smile is > just not good and i never smile when i need to take a photo or i > generally avoid it .My teeth dont match each other ,though i still > havn't had any dental problems .i m thinkng of doing a surgery to > correct the same. > > is it advisable ,since it will correct my jaw and my face sructure and > the most it will give me self confidence to approach and speak . > > if someone has done the same ,kindly let me know te healing time and > what r the complications which may arise.i have already consulted a > surgeon and thinking of doing it.Thogh some people r advising me to go > against it ,but personaaly i feel it will boost me in life. > > i had gone trhu various forums and sites and they say lower jaw surgery > is not much a bother as compared to upper jaw surgery, but htere might > be some numbness for some time . >

Guest guest
-Hello, Sam - I'm sorry I misunderstood you; I thought you stated that your lower jaw is forward, and that was why I thought you had an underbite. Sorry! As to your question about doing the upper jaw: the reason why they are doing upper surgery on me is because my midface didn't develop like it should have, and it needs to come forward. Your doctor will take a special xray called a Cephalometric xray, which takes a picture of your profile. He will be able to study it to see if your upper is the problem. Sometimes people seem to have a protruding lower jaw, but it really is an underdeveloped upper jaw that is the real problem. This is something that your doctor needs to figure out, in your case.~~~~ Diane (Idaho)-- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , guy_cd <no_reply@y...> wrote: > > hi Diane > > thks for the mail.My doctor did not give me pre surgery treatment as > it is not necessary.i dont have any underbite problem ,but i feel > conscious abt myself. Can u let me know one thing ,since only > the ;lower jaw is a prob, will they also operate on upper jaw . > > it will improve the appearnce very dramatically ,u can c katerin's > pics.I m treying to contact her as she had surgery. > i will c ur pics > keep in touch > > regds > sam > > > > > > > > > i m 35 yr old male and have my lower jaw forward ,and hence my > > smile is > > > just not good and i never smile when i need to take a photo or i > > > generally avoid it .My teeth dont match each other ,though i > still > > > havn't had any dental problems .i m thinkng of doing a surgery > to > > > correct the same. > > > > > > is it advisable ,since it will correct my jaw and my face > sructure > > and > > > the most it will give me self confidence to approach and speak . > > > > > > if someone has done the same ,kindly let me know te healing time > > and > > > what r the complications which may arise.i have already > consulted a > > > surgeon and thinking of doing it.Thogh some people r advising me > to > > go > > > against it ,but personaaly i feel it will boost me in life. > > > > > > i had gone trhu various forums and sites and they say lower jaw > > surgery > > > is not much a bother as compared to upper jaw surgery, but htere > > might > > > be some numbness for some time . > > > > > >
