Guest guest
Joyce Rudy Why do you do them without oxygen? You can find a way to take oxygen. Are your sats dropping below 90% as you do them? If so, its unwise. If they're staying above 90% then ok, but for some reason I suspect they aren't. > > My doc has cleared me for exercise but now my aquafit instructor wants a > signed note that says I am ok to do aquafit....if I tell my doctor I do the > exercises without oxygen she won't sign a not to give the ok...nor will my > pulmodude Dr hodges in Phoenix....they all think I need my oxygen when doing > even minimal exercise let alone jumping around a swim pool doing intense > cariac exercises....The people at the Pendleton Center aboslutey had a fit > when I told them I was doing that without air! Guest guest
Joyce, Honestly my friend there are times I just want to shake you! LOL Remember a few weeks ago how short of breath and sick you felt when carrying something and climbing stairs? That's why you need to use the oxygen when you are exercising. Your lungs are damaged. You need supplemental O2 in order for your lungs to be able to supply adequate oxygen to your body. The only person you are hurting by pretending this is not true is yourself. If you need oxygen at all you need it most when you are exercising. I go to the gym and take an exercise class 5 days a week using my oxygen. Two days a week I take a pool exercise class and do so with my oxygen. I put a 50 foot tubing on my tank and do everything that everyone else can do. Sometimes I'm the only one with oxygen and sometimes there are 3 or 4 of us. Considering all the other things you've been through and all the other adjustments you've made this is just one more. Don't hurt yourself by pretending you don't need oxygen. We all love you and want you around here with us! Guest guest
Joyce, I love to swim too and would love to do it again. At the rehab they have a pool for other rehab patients I guess and every time I go past the area I want to go there instead. Guest guest
, I am in the pool twice a week. I participate in a water exercise class using my oxygen and then when that's over I usually move over to one of the lanes and swim for 15 or 20 minutes. I put my tank next to the pool and have a 50 legnth of tubing attached. Using that I can swim back and forth in the lane. It took some getting used to, learning how not to get tangled up in the tubing and keeping the cannula in place while swimming but it's all working fine for me now. Like you I love the water and I love to swim. It's so nice to have access to a pool and be able to get in there a couple of times a week! Guest guest
Beth- I asked the instructor if I could use a long tube and she said no, it would interfer with the other students. They w9ouldn't be able to pass me by and would get intangled with it..that is why I ahve been doing it without oxygen. My 02 is at the side of the pool an dwhen I feel I need it I just swim over and use it for a few minutes...but none of my doctors will ok that and and the staff at my medically supervised exercise had a fit when I told them that! I guess my swimming days are over...that makes me so sad...I love it so. We don'thave a rehab facility with a pool or even a rehap facility. so sad....but you are right. I can't even climb stairs and hold things well...I'm going to kill myself in the pool but I just can't seem to give it up! It is so hard for me. Guest guest
No they drop significantly below 90...if I wallk without 02 from the sofa to the kitchen my stats drop into th elow 80's...and I just can't grasp why. I know my lungs are not good but psychologically I feel so good! It's just so hard for me...my mind wants to be active and run around and my body doesn't like it. It is so frustrating! it is so frustrating and it confuses me...Joyce r AZ birds

Guest guest
We have members who do swim and use oxygen. Rehab facilities should be able to assist you. In most you'll have to bring your own oxygen but that can be done. > > Joyce, I love to swim too and would love to do it again. Guest guest
Well, she says it will disrupt the class if I have a long tube and people would not be able to get around it. it would not work...I don't know if that is a ADA claim ornot.;....but don't want to stop others from enjoying the class!
