So with all that said, have you found any of these to be acceptable with your body, or found any other " processed " (in other words, " you can purchase it at the grocery store rather than having to make EVERYTHING from scratch " ) products that were good? Carissa, There are a few, a very few products for which we have letters in the library. It's your choice to use processed foods, but if you do use them, and then don't see the results you hope for from SCD, consider pulling the processed cr@p and making everything yourself. One of the things which infuriates me is the number of ways manufacturers sneak junk into our food. For instance -- tomato paste frequently has added sugar. Or starch as a thickener. But -- the manufacturer is only required to list " tomato paste " as an ingredient, not what ingredients are in the ingredient. For another, they're not required to list " processing aids " on the labels because they are not ingredients. I got very, very sick on some sliced beef roast for which the listed ingredients were " beef, salt, water. " Then I found out every slice was dusted with corn starch to prevent sticking together. You'll find SCD blogs listing a whole raft of foods they call " legal. " Again, it's your choice. I stand by " make your own, make your own, make your own! " That's what healed me as significantly as I am. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Guest guest
I also found this from foodfacts.com Citric Acid - MSG/Corn A colorless, crystalline organic compound belonging to the family of carboxylic acids, present in practically all plants and in many animal tissues and fluids. It is one of a series of compounds involved in the physiological oxidation of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates to carbon dioxide and water.First isolated from lemon juice by a Swedish chemist, Carl Wilhelm Scheele, in 1784, citric acid is manufactured by fermentation of cane sugar or molasses in the presence of a fungus, Aspergillus niger. It is used in confections and soft drinks (as a flavoring agent), in metal-cleaning compositions, and in improving the stability of foods and other organic substances (by suppressing the deleterious action of dissolved metal salts)." ....Some brands of citric acid may be made from wheat, however this is rare. It also gives a long list of the citric acid fruits. Jean To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, October 4, 2010 5:50:26 PMSubject: Re: Have you found any "legal" processed foods??? Guest guest
I usually make my own pecan butter, but my food processor broke ( I accidentally dropped it . I found these in my local health food store, and the walnut-cashew one is amazing. They only contain raw organic nuts- and seem legal to me. I hear they also come in packets- although I have not seen them for sale. What a great thing to take on the go. They are a bit pricey- but for a treat- or until I buy a new processor... they look good. Note- I don't represent this company- but any product that looks legal deserves a second look. http://www.premierorganics.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage & Itemid=1 PJ > > Also the citric acid that is in most tomato products (and other products) is not > citric acid from fruit - it has been genetially modified and it is another name > for MSG. > Actually, I don't think the citric acid is MSG, but it IS derived from corn. > > > †" Marilyn >    New Orleans, Louisiana, USA >    Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 >    Darn Good SCD Cook >    No Human Children >    Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund >    Babette the Foundling Beagle > >        >
Guest guest
Note- they have a cacao product with agave- not legal, but the others look ok to me so far. I have mostly looked at the nut butters. Guest guest
--- This is what Heinz Classico wrote me in response to my inquiry. I've asked a second time to verify all ingredients in their tomato paste, to be sure. Currently waiting on that reply. " Thank you for visiting our web site and your inquiry about Classico Sauces. There are no hidden ingredients in the tomato paste used to make the Classico Sauces. The natural flavorings listed in the ingredients are spices and seasonings and do not contain any hidden sugar, MSG or other allergens as designated by the FDA. Guest guest
Oh, isnt' that annoying? Another incomplete list and back to the old " natural seasonings " bit! Good luck with the second letter. >There are no hidden ingredients in the tomato >paste used to make the Classico Sauces.
